Just about an hour ago I took a section of the practice exam (writing) from the BB- apparently I'm not I bright as I thought I was since I scored a 230 for multiple choice. I didn't do the essay yet but I'm already freaking out over the score I got. I swear I thought I would've gotten something in the 700s. My PSAT writing score was 41, I don't understand how my score could've possibly went down. It makes no sense to me.
I'm going to take the SAT this October for the 1st time, is there any hope for me getting my score up? I'm thinking about getting a private tutor for like 2 hours a few times a week- could this increase my score significantly? If the tutor is to $$$ I'm going to have to self-study. Could someone please recommend some good SAT writing skills books or an effective study method?
I was planning on applying to NYU, but I guess that dream's shot to hell. Please help :(

Relax - it was just a practice session. Pinpoint your mistakes and fix them. Practice, practice, practice, it really is the only way. The writing section is a little bit more difficult than the others in my opinion, but once you expose the inner workings of the SAT, it’s easy to figure out. Buy books on the SAT Writing section and self study.

Also, if it’s any consolation, the writing section is actually the easiest section to improve your score on.

You should purchase classic SAT books (lists you can find online, just google “books to read for the SAT”) which will help you read in context and also possibly your vocabulary. Read at least one book about good essays (not necessarily about SAT essays).

time to learn some grammar.

buy a writing focused sat prep book. (I recommend the powerscore writing) and learn that **** like its the bible.

Are you trolling or something?

The quality of the grammar in your post does not seem to be of a 230 except for your awful punctuation. It seems like to be at least 400. Maybe you had a computation error or something… please check your computations again.

Maybe you could try the ACT out…

By the way, what was your score in the real SAT test (breakdown of all 3 subjects).

Also note that practice test scores vary from test to test. My first practice test score was 480 (BB#11), but in my other tests (realQASes, I got 650+)

“I don’t understand how my score could’ve possibly went down.”

Well that could be why.

I should have disqualified the scores for the SAT I took because somehow I ended up missing a writing section (idk how), but since I was so anxious to see what I got in the other sections I didn’t.
Regardless, I scored a 330 in the Writing and a 520 in the CR. I have room for improvement as I didn’t prep for this SAT whatsoever. When I posted this is July I was really gung-ho on college, but around late September I stopped prepping because I wasn’t as motivated and I felt that the schools I wanted to go to were a long-shot for me considering my Junior year.
So yeah, I took the SAT December 7th, without prep and those are my CR & Writing scores. Math wasn’t any better. But I got my **** together and I’m prepping…so yeah.

lol no I’m not trolling
