<p>I can give you a third view of this situation - I was like your boyfriend in this story.</p>
<p>This girl and I are really close friends, known each other for years, etc., and at one point I really, really liked her. She never liked me and had several other boyfriends, I eventually got over her and actually now I can’t fathom dating her. So long story short, the girl I had been dating for a few months began to get suspicious because she knew I used to like her. It was a long distance relationship so she would see Facebook pictures of both of us and would be unsure of what was going on between us - I assured her nothing was happening (and nothing was!), eventually I broke up with her because it really began to interfere with our relationship. I really liked her but I couldn’t continue with it as it was almost becoming obsessive.</p>

<p>I essentially agree with this. Your situation obviously isn’t exactly like mine but I don’t think it’s necessarily true that your relationship meant so little to him. It can be very difficult to continue a relationship with someone who seems even slightly insecure.</p>
