My brother needs helps

my brother FINALLY got his act together. He got a C 1st semster in Geometry and brought home his progress report home and had an A in 2nd semster. He’s doing better than ever. He is currently a freshman. he wants to go to Columbia. Will dat C screw his chances because i noticed dat IVY’s do look at freshman grades?

no. he got it on his first semester. I heard freshman grades are only looked for room for improvement. of course, higher grades the better. but that single C will not affect the chances. I highly doubt it.

but taking geometry may hurt him... usually competitive applicants take algebra II in their freshman year

Yes. If the school offers it, you should into taking Algebra Two during the summer to catch up.

That's odd. Geometry is the advanced level of math for freshmen. Maybe it's just the area here. 9th: Geometry 10th: Alg II / Trig 11th: Precalculus Honors 12th: AP Calculus BC.

^
yea...dats how our school is. dats the only option dey have.
besides..my brother is more the english/history.

West Coast could be different mine was 7th - alg 1 8th - geom. 9tj -alg 2 10th - Advance Pre- Calc H 11th - AP Calc BC 12- AP stats (finished my math in junior year.)

Most schools here have Geometry in 9th grade just for the advanced students, Algebra I for the rest. There may occasionally be a rare student who takes Alg/Trig as a freshman, but it is certainly NOT the norm. (We're West Coast but not CA.)

anyways...so..a C isnt dat big a deal for a first semester.

Many schools, including Stanford, do not even consider freshman year grades. So, no, it is probably NOT a big deal.
