My Business Makes $60K A Year, How Do I Include This?

You don't need to go to college!

Of course I do, there's a lot I still need to learn... Maybe if I knew how to market and manage a business like this more efficiently, I'd be making $200K

Who knows?

Jack, has anyone vetted your business to make sure that it's legal? Have you seen all the parcels you've bought and sold? Do you know if the people that you've bought the parcels from actually own them? Have you done title searches on all the parcels? Are the deeds properly drawn and properly recorded? Are your buyers legitimate? Are you dealing with any foreigners on the US Watch Lists? Or the other "do not do business with these people" Homeland Security lists?

Real estate is a highly regulated buisness on both the local and now federal and international level. It is not simple. Your business has so many potential legal issues that "whether it looks good to colleges" may be the least of your worries.

I have an attorney and operate as an LLC.

pwnd.gg. 1 0

Wow! Selling land in Idaho to European with cash to burn. You, sir, are a genuis. Too bad I'm living in Boston where land is worth their weight in gold. I need to move to Montana and start a business. Dude, here's another business advice for you. Write down your method in some flimpsy booklet and start creating a "Real Estate" course. You can this through infomercials and make MILLIONS. LOL!

A second vote for looking into Babson. I know someone there and it sounds like a great fit for you. They are the kind of school that will appreciate what you have done with the business and really expand your skill sets for the future.

if you like math id reccomend looking into mit's business school.

Are you serious? $60,000 a year? Of course that's an incredible accomplishment, a "hook" if I've ever seen one. Trumpet it in your essays. Wow. If what you say is true, you've got an excellent shot at most colleges. Aim for the most prestigious, regardless of your stats. (Unless, of course, you have miserable grades. In that case, you probably don't want to go to an Ivy League anyway.)

I have one question, though. Why don't the Europeans you're dealing with simply buy the cheap land directly, and not through you? Don't they know how to use eBay?

I would also be tempted to roll the dice and apply to UPenn Wharton.

Thanks for the advice everyone. My grades aren't spectacular, but certainly aren't miserable either. I have like a 3.3-3.4 GPA in the most rigorous course load I can take (AP and Honors wherever available).

Aristotle, I buy the land through obscure channels that were difficult to discover in the first place. The people who buy land from me wouldn't be able to find it anywhere near as cheap as I get it unless they did a lot of initial research.

Of course, I could just tell them where to buy $16 lots (no joke, I have bought a $16 lot before), but I’d prefer it if they bought it through me. ;)

That's unweighted GPA.

From your description of what you've done, I can say with some certainty that admissions officers will likely regard your business as ample evidence of excellent critical thinking skills, intelligence, and savvy entrepreneurship. A 3.3-3.4 is what, a B? Will Ivy Leagues dismiss that B after considering your massive profits? I dunno. Apply everywhere. What are your SATs like?

I also second another poster here in that if you can make $60,000 a year in high school, you shouldn't worry in the least about college.

It's a B+ average. I haven't take SATs yet, I'm a sophomore.

Ivy league never really crossed my mind with a B+ average, to be honest. I was thinking schools like Syracuse... You guys saying I should aim higher?

I think you should. This business thing is quite brilliant.

Let me put it like this; suppose you apply to 10 top schools, there's a good chance one of them will like it and take you in. :)

And definitely apply to Babson!

Worst advice possible.

Stop telling everyone your business secrets. Also, make me your business partner.

I haven't told anyone my business secrets. Just a very vague description of my operation. Someone would need a lot more information to do what I do... :D

Just one thing, you're 500% sure there's nothing even remotely illegal in your business right?

Yes. 10 char
