My Campus Visit

Hey, well I'm a junior in high school and a visited Pepperdine a few months ago. I've noticed how busy the Pepperdine forum has become, so I thought I would post my experience with Pepperdine for prospective students (if they haven't had the opportunity to visit the school).

I'm just going to break it down into parts...

First off I have to start with the campus. Nothing can compare to Pepperdine's campus. It is absolutely amazing. I mean wherever you are on campus, whether you are in the cafeteria, a dorm, by the church, or by the tennis courts the views are stunning. It is perfect. I've visited LMU, Pomona College, UCSB, Cal Poly, USC, and UCLA, and honestly nothing can compare. Pepperdine is the most amazing place I have ever seen.

The administration/staff/employees at Pepperdine are the nicest people you will ever meet. I had trouble finding a parking spot along the main street, and the worker in the booth gave me a token to get into a student parking area. In the bookstore, the checker was incredibly nice. He started up a conversation, and was very helpful for finding places on campus, and for directions to USC. Also the admissions counselor (i remember her name, it was jasmine patterson) was incredibly nice. She answered everyone's questions, and spoke to us about her experiences at pepp as a employee and a student.

The students were really great too. The first thing I noticed was how hot the girls were. Honestly the school is full of the most beautiful people, but they weren't snobby, they were really friendly. A thing that I really like a Pepperdine was the school spirit. I would say about 7/10 people had on a Pepperdine shirt or sweatshirt. Everyone just seemed very happy. I spoke with some freshmen students there, and they showed me spots on campus, that the tour doesn't take you on, and they also showed me their dorm room. The students were amazing. Spirited, Friendly, and Hot...

As for the housing. It was really nice. The suite I saw had an ocean view from the common room downstairs. They have fricken fireplaces. When I went up the stairs to the suite, they were really spacious. The rooms are very nice and big, and there is plenty of room. LMU's dorms are pretty similar, but Pepperdines seemed more open and friendly, and they had fireplaces.

I also went to the cafeteria for lunch. The food is really good, and the cafeteria is amazing. The ocean views were incredible. As for food I got pizza and a smoothie and both were excellent. My friends got a sandwich and sushi, and they said they were both excellent. There were plenty of options, so I don't think students get bored with the food too quick. Another crazy thing was about their trashcans. They don't have any. They have this rotating wall and you just set your plates and food on it.

The tour guide took us to the largest lecture hall, and some classroom buildings and spoke about Pepperdine's academics. The largest hall has seats for about 200 students, where as UCSB has a class for over 500. Pepperdine's class sizes are definitely small. The tour guide said their most popular majors (and strongest) are business, communications, and pre-med. Supposedly Pepperdine also has amazing connections. Also if you are unsure of a major, Pepperdine is a great place to be. The admissions counselor switched her major twice, and then added a double major and still graduated on time. Also here last semester she only had one class (lacrosse).

I went to Pepperdine with a few concerns. I thought the religious affiliation would create a babysitter like atmosphere and that definitely isn't the case. Their students have fun. Whether it is going to a bonfire, santa monica, a movie premier, or a frat party Pepperdine students always have a good time. Another concern I had was the school's size. I thought it would be too small. However the size seemed perfect, because you meet people everyday, but you still see familiar faces on your way to classes.

And if some of you have concerns about the religiousness of Pepperdine....well you shouldn't. Honestly it didn't seem really religious. The required convocation is no big deal. A student told me that they had to watch the lion king and compare it to the bible. And if you can just wake up by 8am every Wednesday, you are guaranteed an A.

And the students I talked too said their experiences with Pepperdine have been everything and more.

Well that's about it. I hope I helped some prospective students figure out if Pepperdine is right for them.

Welcome back SoCal18! Couldn't have done a better job myself giving the tour. It is an amazing place and my D loves it for all the above reasons!

Awesome read, thanks!

Just wanted to add that in all my college experiences I agree with SoCal. I have never encounter nicer more helpful people than at Pepperdine. Any depts we have had to deal with have been excellent experiences! It truly has a family feel. My D is going to Florence this summer through Pepperdine and Dr. Benton, Pepperdine's president is going too. He and his wife had the students who are going over for dinner last Sunday! She said they were very down to earth.
