Can you tell me how much chance I have for College of Arts and Sciences?

hmm your sort of in teh same boat as me, alot of e.c’s, not so great sat reading scores, but good recs. id say 50/50, as long as you applied E.D.

yeah…i forgot to put…i’m applying for early decision
thanks for reply

any other opinions?

I am assuming that you are japaness… but how come you didn’t score 800 on the Japaneses SAT II?

because i’m not a japanese lol
you can know it by my JLPT —> this test is only for foreigners

bump!!

please chance me…

probably waitlist

^ok…what is my weaknesses? can you tell me pleeease?

…and the fact that I came from non-english speaking country and that I came to American School late is considered?

my counselor said, in my case, they will look at TOEFL reading score because they think TOEFL reading reflects people’s reading ability better for people like me.

So she said, TOEFL reading can compensate a little bit of my CR score…
how do you think??

From talking with my guidance counselors and last years seniors, getting into these super competitive colleges is such a crap-shoot. You have a good GPA, good ECs, good recs, even though your SAT CR score isn’t great. Most likely, Cornell will look into your background and make a decision based upon how a “Cornell Student” would have performed in the same situation. It really could go either way.

hm…ok
so you mean admission committee considers my background.
To emphasize my background is not much exposed to English, I just put one line in “additional information” part of common app saying that I never attended English-taught schools before I came in to American school in europe in 10th grade.
Is it enough?
I mean, do they anyway find out my background with my app?
I really want to tell them I’m different from applicants in the English speaking country and that I started attending American school very late.

Actually, I think that’s the only way that I can explain my low CR score

if only college admission officers were compassionate enough to understand the reason for students with low CR scores…can’t you retake the sat and increase your sat CR score a bit…because Cornell puts a huge emphasis on CR scores…but good luck =]

it’s ED…so…I can’t take SAT anymore…
is CR score the biggest damage to me? or is there something else that can hammer me?

^out of curiosity, is a 700 CR good enough for an American kid at Cornell, (who also doesn’t have one of the three major hooks), but has a 780 math to go with it? I realize it’s only their average in that section…

Yeah I have the same question as colinization: my SAT score was 720 CR, 780 Math, and 800 Writing. Is the CR kinda crappy?

quote

[/quote]

What are the “three major hooks?”

^i think for both American and non-american, cr 700 is decent enough

anyway… this was chance thread…
Considering above all, what are my chances?

not at all, Chandler, ur have enviable scores

Bestwhit, there are four major hooks, not three, are as follows:

Minority

Recruited Athlete

Development/VIP

Legacy

I said three because colinization said there were “three major hooks.”
Interesting to know, though…
