Neither the UC system nor the Cal State system has “Early Action” or “Early Decision” for freshman applicants. Does this change for transfer students?

I’m not a transfer…I’m a high school senior.

I’m just taking an extra class at my local community college for higher-level math…I was putting that on there, because it might look better on my transcript?

It is binding AFTER you accept the ED offer. Also, any ED committment is only binding to the extent you receive adaquate financial aid to attend. If CalPoly does not offer sufficient financial aid, then you can be released.

You should definately get in. You should know by now that SAT 2’s and EC"s really don’t influence the decision too much, or they would have at least given an area to list them.

My son had approximately the same stats as you last year, ACT 31 with 35 on the Math section of the ACT, was 10/505, 4.22 GPA (weighted), 4.0 unweighted, and applied to aerospace engineering for regular decilsion and he was waitlisted and ultimately was not admitted…Good luck to you, I hope you get in if Cal Poly is where you want to go!

He is at the University of Colorado at Boulder, really enjoying it. That was always his first choice school. Studying aerospace engineering and already getting involved in a lot of cool stuff. Also was admitted to UCLA but turned it down to go to Colorado…UCLA is our local school and he wanted to be away from home. Yes, you are right, college apps are a crapshoot these days, I agree. But from reading these posts on CC, it seems to me that if a student really wants to go to Cal Poly, and especially if they are going to major in engineering or architecture, they should apply ED. It seems easier to get in for ED than regular admission. Last year there were several students who applied ED who were admitted with lesser stats than my son. At least that is what I would advise someone to do if Cal Poly were really their first choice.
By the way, glad your daughter is happy there and has found a home! Good luck with her occupational therapy goal, I am a physical therapist!

Okaaaay, now it’s coming back to me–the part of about him being accepted to UCLA and wanting to get away. I’m so glad he’s enjoying Colorado! I know a woman whose older son is there (a sophomore) and really likes it. My daughter probably would have gone to UCLA had she been accepted. I still think she would have had a better chance if she were just a year older. The economy seemed to change things for this year. But, who knows! I find it interesting that kids will get into UCLA and Berkeley and not Cal Poly SLO.

Thank you for your well wishes for my daughter and her OT goal. I heard her mention to someone once that PT could be a possibility, as well. We’ll see! I just hopes she does well in her Kinesiology major at CPSLO.

It’s strange that your son wanted to get to Colorado because I live in Colorado and want to get away from there. I have several friends up at CU and most of them like it a lot.
