Alright so I’m a transfer student and I applied to three schools: NYU, Boston University, and University of Minnesota TC. I’ve gotten into Boston and UMN, but I haven’t gotten a response from NYU yet. NYU’s deadline for transfer students was April 1st, and they told me on the phone people are getting letters in the month of May so I have to wait a little bit. I’m on the dean’s list and I am leaving this school with a 3.75 GPA after attending full time for 2 years. I’m a first generation Afghan American and as for work and other stuff I’ve been bussing tables at a local restaurant since I was 15 and I’m an oil painter (I used to go to an art school in my town for a few years but it sucked and I’ve been doing it on my own since). I wrote a decent essay for the common app and I also got a teacher of mine that REALLY likes me to give me a letter of recommendation.
That’s pretty much it. I see a lot of HS kids on here that get like 36’s on their ACTs and have straight 4.0s with 50+ EC’s that are applying to the same school so yeah I’m a bit nervous. I heard from a few people that transfer students don’t need as much to get into schools compared to HS students? Not sure if that’s true or not but I sure hope so… I got into two other pretty good schools so I feel like it might be true to some degree. You guys are the experts on this stuff though so I’ll leave it to you to tell me. UMN gave me lots of aid, BU gave me 43k which is better than nothing but my parents are poor af and I don’t like Boston enough to work my ass off to pay the rest. NYU on the other hand… if they give me similar aid to BU I’ll do anything to make it work. Super anxious and stressed over this, haven’t slept well in a while and I’ve been smoking a lot more recently… If you know anyone who was in a similar situation tell me how it turned out for them!
