My chance for transferring to UC Berkeley or UC LA

Please chance me for those two schools. I'm an international students at De Anza College, Cupertino, CA.
Any comments will be really appreciated :).

Age: 22 this summer :( (It takes me 2 years in an college in my home country for nothing! I hate that college really much, but my parents didn't let me leave until 2009)

Major: Business (Finance) for UCB or Business Econ for UCLA
After this Winter quarter at De Anza, I will have 51 IGETC transferable quarter Unit.

GPA: 4.0/3.97 after this Quarter (I got >95% for 3 of my classes before finals so far, just not sure about english composition class, but I think at least an A-.)

Rigor of classes: 2 A+ for 2 Econ classes, 3As for Calculus 1A, 1B, 1C, A or A- for an English composition class, an A for Intro to Business class, an A for Political Science class, an A for Environmental Biology class w/ lab. All As and A+ for other general education classes. Taking Business law, Accounting classes next quarter, will try hard to get those two As or A+ though :).

ECs:
In high school, I joined and prepared for yearly school camps. I was also a singer for my school in a city school concert competition. My test score for a national university entrance examination was the third in my high school (around 600 kids). But my high school doesn't rank students.
I hardly can do much ECs in college. Except: being a club member for 2 clubs in school, volunteering in a program that prepares for a IYF Youth World Camp in UCLA this summer, and volunteering in an Insurance Agency (making quotes and selling insurances) for more than 2 months. I am also a member of Phi Theta Kappa, and thinking about joining World Affair Council in San Francisco after I listened to a seminar from a Havard prof in their place in SF.

As an International student, the tuition and fee for me in UCs are very very costly. Truthfully, my family can't pay that much (~40k a year) for them. My budget is about 20 to 30k a year. But I got into UCB or UCLA, my mom would give them a try (mortgage my house in Vietnam).
If my chance is good (Hass is very competitive I know ), I will wait til next Fall (2011), or I will transfer out of state in Spring 2011. I will also apply some private out of state colleges with a hope of getting some scholarships/aids. I have some out of state privates in my aim, but any suggestion will also be appreciated :).

Thank all,

I would say you have a good shot at both but tuition will be KILLER.

You can see what type of longs you can get i’m actually not sure what type of F.A is available to foreign students

Thank you Peterr86. Sadly, UCs and other publics don’t give any F.A for foreign students :(. The scholarships for transfer students are also very minimal.

foreign students have really low admissions rates at both those schools but you have a good gpa which is a definite plus. You also picked the most competitive majors that already have insanely low rates. Ide say you have about 50/50

Also at HAAS, ECs are 15% of admissions so not having any will hurt you.

It seems like I should not think about UCs anymore academically and financially. Then what do you guys think about my other choices? Mostly out of the state of CA and all Business school except liberal art colleges with Econ:
SUNY Binghamton and Buffalo (97) for public and safety. Texas Chritian Uni, Southern Methodist Uni, Drexel Uni, Lake Forest College and probably University of The Pacific in CA for private conditionally I can get sm aids. Lawrence Uni for LAC Econ & math major. Maybe some others more.

Can someone please provide stats for international student acceptance at haas? I know residents have priority over foreigners but by how much? >:)

I am not sure, but I have heard that there was a international student got rejected from Hass with a 4.0 GPA. It’s kinda crazy, but I actually believe 3.9 and 4.0 are not much different. I still wanna keep my 4.0 though :).

usually about 95%, and that’s a very conservative number, of accepted haas students are from ccc AND US citizens. that leaves only 5% for uc-to-uc transfers and international students. each year haas takes in about 100 students (roughly).

Thank you NathanDrake

if your GPA >3.9, I think you are in for UCLA. But for Hass, that is a lottery. Noone can ever know.
