I think i did pretty decent essays, and had my teacher read over them.
Do u think i have any shot at UCI, this is my 1st choice for college.

You have a shot, but not necessarily a good shot

wait, sorry, i messed up with my GPA. 3.77 is HS GPA. my UC GPA is 3.91. I meant to put that as well, since i don’t know which one they look at while determining ur admittance. will that make a huge difference.

They look at UC GPA.

That will help your chances somewhat, but it is still a little bit below the average UC GPA, and your SAT is about 270+ below the average.

Even still, your chances are a bit slim. There is nothing that stands out in your application. You’re in clubs, but what kind of role do you play in them? Do you show any leadership? (Not that I’m saying that every applicant needs leadership experience), but it does help you stand out and put you on somewhat on par with your academically strong peers.)
A good # of community hours is 200+

What are your SAT II’s?

What is the strength/difficulty level of your classes?

Senior class load?

However, being in the top 10% will help, imo. Not sure if this makes a difference, but if not a lot of your classmates that are also in the top 10% didn’t apply to UCI, your chances may increase slightly.

i’ve taken 6 AP classes, and one at CC.
my senior class is 724 students. Im like 70.

Dude you should be in at SD LOL
Relax :D

I wish…i would pick that over UCI.

I mean, if I had to guess, you’re definitely in at UCI because of all the ECs + GPA. I think except for LA and Cal, the UCs don’t look at essays too much. Best of luck though, I hope you get in.

Sorry, but it looks pretty unlikely to me. Your gpa is below the average for last year and your SAT is substantially below the average.

Besides that, it’s almost definitely (for several reasons) going to be even more competitive to get in this year.

sndebrosse- u are talking about SD, right?
i never thought i really had a chance at UCSD, or UCLA, i just heard they were nice campuses, so i applied to them, knowing they were my reach schools. UCI was the one that i thought i could have a small chance at, but was still worried about it. but thanks for the responses, i can’t wait to find out from UCI, whenever that is. :p

Um, no. I’m talking about UCI. The average GPA of admitted students last year was 4.01 and the average SAT score was 1869. The acceptance rate was 42%. Keep in mind that they’re accepting fewer freshmen this year, yet have a record number of applicants.

Also, lol at the idea that the standards for getting into UCSD are comparable to UCLA’s. UCI and UCSD are far closer in terms of their admitted student bodies than UCSD is to UCLA.

Hey relax, I think you have a decent shot!
A few of my friends and including myself with roughly the same stats got in… but we do have a bit more ECs and community service hours than you do. I don’t think your SAT score is going to hurt you that much. If your essays were good/unique, I’m pretty sure you’ll get in. :]

"sndebrosse Um, no. I’m talking about UCI. The average GPA of admitted students last year was 4.01 and the average SAT score was 1869. "

I’m not sure where these 4.01 GPA’s are coming from. UCI is 4th or 5th of the UC’s, and presumably they too all have average GPA’s all over 4.0, which sounds just ridiculous. So a B+ student is pretty much relegated to the junior colleges until they can boost their grades. This makes for a very skewed student population at these top UC’s. Also if they are all over 4.0, the SAT is a bit low, showing that those GPA’s are inflated. A 4.0 student should have an SAT score in the 2200’s at least. Sad they are swayed by such a flawed number that is easily manipulated depending on courses and high school reputation.

Those averages sound right when I was applying, which was last year. My stats were
4.0 UC GPA with a 1950 SAT.

MANY of my friends with lower stats (3.7 1800, 3.9 1750, 3.75 1820, etc.) got in as well last year.

Thank u so much, do you know how far into the acceptance notification process did ur friends get accepted? did u guys all end up going there?
