yeah, i mean it's Harvard the big H

I dont think that grade nine stats will factor in that greatly. BTW Harvard isn't the be all end all.

yea, suze scared me with her advice. "then taking it national...then taking it international..." but i wish i had known that last year, so i would take my club to state then to national then to international.

sometimes I feel as if I don't belong to CC...CC is an AP college forum.

2.) Would my tutoring in a foreign country help me?

not really?

dont listen to suze, she doesnt know much about Harvard admissions.

Well, to really stand out in such common fields as debating / public speech you really do have to do something special. Taking it international sure would help :)

Thanks for the help.

But basically, I really have only a REALLY SLIM chance of getting in.

Next year, I will hopefully hold a few more leadership roles and I MIGHT start a debate club BUT there is no chance I will ever be able to take it NATIONAL, let alone INTERNATIONAL.

Take a trip and argue with everyone ... there you go :)

Actually, there are debate forums on the internet where observers vote on who wins. My son does debate and forensics at college, but during breaks has been known to get involved in these. I'll get the details if you are interested.

It is possible to participate in some high school forensics competitions even if you go in as a individual, rather than as part of a team from a particular school. Perhaps you can talk to the debate coach at a local school. There may be tournaments where you can do oratory or a similar single person event.

I will be brutally honest as someone who has done alumni interviews for Harvard for more than 20 years. Your chances are not strong. Your ECs are not in the calibre of the kids I see being excepted these days. Even with a 2400, Harvard is looking for the exceptionally accomplished.

Thanks for the feedback.

Do you have any suggestions to as how I could improve my ECs in order to meet the criteria?

P.S.: What about other ivy league schools? What are my chances at:

Yale:
Princeton:
Columbia:
Cornell:
University of PA:

Thanks again.

if you think your race will hurt you, don't check it off...those race boxes are optional

kirmum, how come you and other interviewers like to visit CC? just curious.

maybe because they are willing to give off some recommendations?

splintercell: is there any particular reason you wanna go? are you going just because of prestige or is there a particular major you want to pursue? Law? Business administration? What is your possible major?

if you're just going because you "just want to go there" , then i higly encourage you to examine very well what you really like and see good colleges that have strong academics related to it.

PS not meant to reverse your dreams, but just being analytical here.

dude, it's too late to be joining new organizations. they will only look like fluff to build up your cv. you are not getting into harvard. go to barnes and noble at the mall and get the book listing 50 admitted harvard students. get a box of kleenex, read their profiles and start to weep. being a minority does not help in the slightest. being an UNDERREPRESENTED minority helps tremendously. unfortunately, being asian from jersey is not a urm. it is so lame...another asian who wants to go to harvard. aren't there any other schools that remotely appeal to asians. stop listening to your parents, there are other great schools out there!!! god forbid an asian would have to tell their parents that they got into amherst, can you imagine the shame that would bring to their family?

btw, splinter cell, awesome video game.
