and FYI, before you make NYU your dream school, just know that they are lousy in their financial aid, at least, that’s what I’ve heard!

Do you need any aid? They are very very stingy for internationals. Your SAT is too low, improve it first. Good luck!

I got accepted this year, with 30k in aid. And I’m international.
My stats are slightly better, SAT 2070, better board results, and tons of extracurriculars.
Work on improving your SAT till atleast 2000, and try participating in as many events as possible, if you’re keen on NYU.
And yes, ESSAYS. They matter a lot, work on them. My essays were really good, as rated by everyone I inquired with.
Good luck, if you really want to be there you can definitely do it :)

Do you have a chance me thread that I can read?
I also have some question for you, would you be willing to answer them? I’ll PM you!

and @msuhail
everyone who applied at NYU has around 10% chance of being admitted, as long as you know long that, your chances are good.

@peepingtom yes sure, PM me.

International Students are not eligible for Financial Aid at NYU.

Also the admit rate differs for each school. There are about 20 schools there. The CAS, LSP, Tisch, Stern, Poly, Steinhardt, Gallatin being some offering undergrad programs.

@anialways,
Do you mean need based aid? or merit aid? or both?

NYU is ‘Need Aware’ for international students. This means your ability to pay, and your financial status will be a factor when your application for admission is considered.

I thought need aware meant that if there are 2 applicants with same stats, the higher paying one will be chosen.

So that would translate to “ability to pay”.

I have done some research and I found that university of texas austin is also pretty good

I thought NYU had a 35% acceptance rate so how does one have a 10% chance
but admission is competitive

@savemylife
there’s a difference between overall acceptance and international acceptance. MIT’s is 8%, but for intls, it’s a little more than .5%.

sure there is an international quota ( I mean you can’t have a college that’s 50% international ) but as long as you are paying sticker price and have the same stats and similar extra curiculars you have as much as a chance as any one else but your primary competition will be your fellow compatriots.

There’s no official quota, at least not at international schools, but they do try very hard to cap the max at 10-12%, and yes, there’s a school that almost reached 50% Asians (Americans and/or internationals), it’s UC Berkeley.

public universities In California aren’t allowed to use affirmative action ( that’s Imposing quotas to you and me )
