<p>Do you have recommendations? Clearly it showed that you slacked off during your undergrad, which is common. And your grad you didn’t thus you got a better GPA. I would contact schools and talk to them directly. Also contact past professors with similar Ph.Ds and talk to them.</p>

Also apply to multiple schools no matter where they are in the country.
Ph.D from Harvard is as equal to a Ph.D from UIUC or Berkley.</p>
