So I go to a very competitive high school in NYC, (Stuyvesant). I’m confident in my skills, but the thing is my gpa is terrible for my usual standards. As of now I am a Junior in my second semester, and my GPA is a 87. After this semester it will most likely go up to an 88. However I have also failed a class, (comp sci). I am planning on majoring in the business field and have a 1500 SAT along with a 34 ACT with a few 5’s on AP tests. Can I get into some top 25’s?
Also when you submit Sat scores, do ALL of your sat scores get sent along with all other college board tests? Or can i just send my 1500 and 34 along with the 5’on the AP.
my ec’s are crap btw. I don’t know if internships or volunteering activites count but in that case I’ve done:
40 hours of volunteering at libraries, teaching kids
140 hours of interning/working at a museum to do tours and science research
another 100 hours of a tech startup internship, related to the business field
3 years of a team in my school .
a club for 3 years.
i’m also a city-wide Rugby champion
The odds of admission to a top 25 school is pretty unlikely for most people including students with perfect glad and class rank and superior scores. Your gpa is very low and you anticipate failing a class. One wonders if you are academically prepared for a top 25 school.
Your trajectory isn’t good. You applied but was not successful. First pass the class because a failing grade is a huge problem. Find a school that matches your credentials. Despite the personal standards you set for yourself, you are in trouble with admissions.
Stuy has a pretty good track record of sending students to top 25 schools. Why don’t you talk to your GC? Your GC will know you and what your options are. Good luck.
Since everyone applying to the top 25, whatever that will mean in four years, will have excellent stats, I would start with the assumption that your chances are in the range of whatever their acceptance rates are.
Start looking for a school you can succeed at. Your stats show either a slacker or someone who is not always succeeding at the tough classes at Stuy. Your “competition will have all this plus a 95~ plus some unusual RCs, etc.
It may be that you will get into one, but it doesn’t seem likely at all. So you need to be prepared for the reality that the top 25 is likely out of reach. The good news is that your stats will get you into some Top 100 schools, and will get big scholarships from lots of LACs where you may find a niche. I think you may not thrive in a pressure cooker, so why aim for one in college?
While there is a chance this thread isn’t for real, I’ll bite. Apply to schools that fit your interests, ability to pay and ability to succeed. Grades are important so unless you have a hook, widen your net.
