what'd you think my chances are?
I've been considering UT but everything I read says that USF is better than Tampa. What's the housing like? What's there to do after class and on weekends? (i cant go home whenever I want so i need to stay occupied; i get bored easily) how is the financial aid? would i be allowed to have a car as a freshmen? if so how much would that cost? thanks so much in advanced. I love the tampa area and if i dont get into USF i'll probably end up going to school in NYC :p

This is for 2012 right? If not, then I’m not sure if you can still apply. If you’re applying for next year make sure to apply early so if they defer you or reject you you can figure out how to proceed. If you really want to get in though, I’d apply for summer since it’s a lot less competitive.

I think you have a good chance of getting in, your scores are good but I think you should retake since you’re OOS and it would improve your chances. You should also try the ACT if you haven’t…you never know you could do way better. Your GPA isn’t the best but it should get you in.

UT is a good school but it’s private so if you want that experience go for it. I got into UT too but I picked USF over UT (also because UT is FORTUNE), but I’m still not sure if I’m going to USF (still waiting in UCF’s decision) . UT has a lot of OOS residents though so I would assume it’s a little easier to make friends there ? Idk but that’s just a thought.

Yes you can have a car as a freshman. I’m not sure how much it is but I’ve heard it isn’t cheap.

I’m not sure about what you can do after class, I assume there are on campus activities going on but of course there are things to do on the weekends. I have been to like poetry jams and different free food events on campus though. Ummm as for weekends there are skating rings, bowling alleys, Bush Gardens, Adventure Island, Malibu, the movies, plenty of restaurants and fast food not too far from USF, you can go to games at the Raymond James Stadium, concerts (depends on what type of music you’re into but a lot of rock bands come to the “St.Theatre” in St. Pete, if not then there are all types of music that come to the Ford Amphitheatre and the St. Petersburg Times forum which is downtown), Tropicana Fields are in also in St. Pete if you like baseball. There are also clubs and stuff in YBOR if you’re into that, a couple of different malls in Tampa and surrounding areas as well as most of the usual things that cities have to do.

Your chances are probably about 75% sure admission. USF is a public major research university, UT is a small private college next to downtown Tampa. On campus housing is required for freshmen, the dorms are all modern and nice. Financial aid is always good to get. There are plenty of things to do on campus and off campus year round–it’s Florida! Freshmen can have cars on campus, you have to buy a parking permit which I really don’t know how much is–maybe $100/yr?..I’m guessing! I moved to Florida from NYC when I was one yr. old so I could stay close to my family. Good Luck!

Thanks maydayparade I’m taking an SAT class and retaking the SAT. That GPA is unweighted, and I know it’ll go up when it’s weighted but idk of USF uses the weighted GPA. And it is for 2012

Lizard, I haven’t been to florida since I was little and I’m only going down there to get away from new York weather. Just today someone pulled the fire alarm and we had to stand outside in 40 degree weather and it started to snow. That was the deciding vote for me. Thanks so much. I intend on bringing my car so that I can get to the beach and if I’m accepted I’ll be purschasing an annual pass to busch gardens.
