My chances at Barnard vs Columbia?

Hi guys!
I’m in love with both Barnard and Columbia. I’d be happy at either one and both have advantages over the other. I’m wary about my chances at Columbia, and right now I’m leaning towards Barnard. I want to apply ED to Barnard but I don’t want to completely disregard Columbia. I’m currently a Junior in Central Florida. These are my stats just for this year, but my activities include estimates for next year.

My SAT scores: 770 ERW (40 English, 38 Reading), 670 Math
GPA: 4.4
AP Scores: 5 AP Human Geo, 5 AP World History
SAT 2: 770 World History
ACTIVITIES:

  • Girl Scouts (4 years)
  • French Club (4 years) (President)
  • TSA (3 years) (Treasurer)
  • Pinewood docent (2 years)
  • A-Team (4 years)
  • County A-Team (1 year)
  • Debate Club (founding member) (2 years) (Secretary)
  • Girl Up (2 years) (President/founder)
  • Girl Up Leadership Conference (2017)
  • Co-Founder of #IAmMyBeautiful (school body diversity campaign)
  • Dark Side Half-Marathon (2016)
  • Miami Half-Marathon (2017
      • Raised $800 for Team Girl Up
  • Disney Princess Half-Marathon
  • Slay Girl Society mental health blog contributor
  • Day of the Girl website blog writer
  • Randy Roberts Foundation Scholar
      • Capital Classroom (Visit the Florida State Capital, meet politicians)
      • Congressional Classroom (Visit to Congress, meet politicians)
  • NHS (4 years)
  • World Language Honor Society (4 years)

Thank you so much guys!

I forgot to mention, I’m part of a school with special arts programs and I’m in the school’s Creative Writing program. I’m currently in AP Chem, APUSH, AP Psych, AP English Composition, AP Calculus AB, and three required Creative Writing.

1430 is a very low SAT for Columbia. If anything will hurt your chances, it’ll be your anemic test score, so study up and kill it

Your chances are a good bit better at Barnard.

Your SAT is very low for Columbia and even Barnard, and your gpa (if it’s weighted) is also on the lower end. You have solid ECs. One SAT subject test is not quite enough. Overall, you definitely have better (but still questionable) chances at Barnard.

Your stats are fine for Barnard.

I’m not going to speculate about Columbia admissions - but I will tell you that for all but a few majors, Barnard is a much better school. Barnard students have a supportive faculty & administration, a lot more personal attention, better advising, a lot more flexibility in course choices, the ability to enroll in almost all courses at Columbia (even graduate level courses)- and in the end a degree from Columbia U.

Columbia does generally offer stronger financial aid, however. (Loans are not used to meet need).
