Any opinions?

fantastic chance, make sure to make it known that your dad pay nothing and heavily emphasize your passion. Good Luck

^ Wow, thanks, I'll make sure to focus on Debate as my hook, as I've heard of their Fulton Hall and great Debate team.

Hi, I'm currently a junior and wondering about my chances of getting in EA and possibly the Presidential Scholars Program...

What do you think my chances are? Thanks so much for your time..

^ Jeez, hijacking my thread, lol, jk

ecm- i think you're definitely into bc, and if you get your sats up a lot, you might have a shot at the presidential program

Alright, well, for the first update: I got a 1910 on the new SAT

710 CR
600 M
600 W (9/12 Essay)

Any more ideas, I think my ACT will be better which I'll post tommorow.

ecm- just keep in mind that generally the kids that get invited into PSP are in the top 1% (i.e. ranked 1,2 or maybe 3 in your class of 277)

duff- I answered you already on another board but I thought you might enjoy this ...

<a href="http://www.bc.edu/offices/pubaf/meta-elements/ram/powell_psa_56k.ram%5B/url%5D">http://www.bc.edu/offices/pubaf/meta-elements/ram/powell_psa_56k.ram</a></p>

Well, not sure why the link isn't working on my comp, but its a short tv sport that shows the Fulton Debating Chamber that I wrote you about last time. The video is kind acheezy, but at least you get to see what it looks like. Try this link if the other one didn't work:

<a href="http://www.bc.edu/offices/pubaf/meta-elements/ram/powell_psa_220k.ram%5B/url%5D">http://www.bc.edu/offices/pubaf/meta-elements/ram/powell_psa_220k.ram</a></p>

ECM, I think your SATs are a bit low for BC but you can bring them up in October so you probably have a shot.

Heightsman, for PSP what does BC place the most emphasis?

SATs

SAT IIs

GPA/class rank

Service

Legacy

other?

Oh, so update

ACT: 30 Composite

Any ideas on my chances?

duff- I'm not familiar with the ACT (or the new-fangled SAT) so can't really help you out there, sorry.

eagle- from what I know, presidential scholars are selected based on three criteria:

top academic record (i.e. grades/class rank and SAT/ACT scores)

demonstrated leadership

commitment to community service/social justice issues

Actually I'd venture to say that these are the qualities (in that order) that BC looks for in all its applicants, only the standards are higher and I don't think being a legacy is considered at all for PSP.

Hey everyone.. thanks for all the advice and feedback :-) I have high grades (have gotten only one B my whole high school career) and hope that my rank will move up to at least 6/ 277.. my high school, particularly my grade, is extremely competitive.. I hope to get my SATs up to the 2100 mark, am involved in the community, and have an interesting background.. do you think these factors could possibly earn me an interview for the PSP program? To say the least it would be awesome!

And I see many of you have obviously been successful with these standardized tests.. any advice on how to prepare? I took the SAT for the first time ever in May and got a 1930.. yes, it leaves much to be desired :-/

I think things like interesting background and legacy status will definitely help get you into BC, but I don't think they will have an effect on gaining you an interview into PSP once you're been accepted. Indirectly of course they could. I'd bet your interesting background has given you unique opportunities for service/leadership/things they do look for. So if you've taken advantage of those opportunities that would definitely help. And just to nitpick: PSP=Presidential Scholars Program. So saying PSP program is like saying ATM machine :)

Well....if we could get back to my post, lol, with the updated scores, I'll be using the 30 ACT, if I do EA, will I have a shot, or should I just do regular decision??

Duffman, I would offer some advice, but still being in high school myself, I have no idea.. you seem like an interesting and bright candidate and I could definitely see you getting in.. I have a question regarding the common ap.. I wanted to start writing my essay for BC this summer, but they still haven't published the 2006 common ap. Do you guys think the essays would change?
