My chances at Berea??

Hey guys.

I think this is the only college i will be able to afford in the US, i'm from pakistan. So what are my chances at Berea.

My father earns about $6000/year in an airline. So financially i will qualify i think so. And no other source of income. And altogether there are 6 people who are dependent upon him.

Anyways, I have completed my O'levels and my A'levels from a well reputed institute in Karachi,Pakistan.

In O'levels i got 2 A's, 3 B's and 2 C's. And I'm awaiting my A'level result, expected 2 A's and a B.

My SAT score is lame: 1640
I will give TOEFL and score high just to be on the safe side. Considering these factors, not forgetting that i'm an international student and Berea hasn't admitted anyone from Pakistan till now. So what are my chances?

no one cares about the TOEFL. passing the TOEFL with a high score shows that you can talk and write in english. it will NOT affect your admission unless you do poorly

and yes, you need a better SAT score

but it says it’s on their website that it is highly recommended that international students do provide TOEFL or IELTS scores. SAT will work too though but my score is not good. their minimum For SAT was 1240 i think.

TOEFL and IELTS is to make sure you can communicate and speak english. thats all

its like a cutoff. if you do well, they will CONSIDER you for admission. after that you need your grades, SAT, essyas etc to get in

Honestly, with your O level grades and your SATs, finding a big scholarship is probably not possible. Maybe do undergrad in Pakistan, do well and try the US for grad school.

I believe you meet admissions standards. Im not sure how they go by GPA for international students.
People on here don’t do research on their school when they go chancing here.
hmom5, Berea gives every student admitted a full tuition scholarship regardless.
however they only accept 29%, but since you slightly explained your geographical situation Id say your chances are good even still.
chance back.

also the SAT shown on their sites is out of 1600, CR and math. the one you’re talking about is out of 2400

Berea’s mission is to educate students from Appalachia, which is why they have never had a student from Pakistan. I don’t think it would be worth expending any effort to apply because you are not from Appalachia. Higher test scores won’t help.

Yes, I know, but do you have any idea what it takes for an international to get in to get that scholarship?

It is precisely because of his or her “geographical situation” that the applicant would be denied admission.

Dntw8ip if you see their website and research a bit, you will find that they have admitted students from "11. How many international students do you have?

Each year, we admit about 30 new international students. In a typical school year, there are about 120 international students enrolled from approximately 70 countries around the world." taken from berea FAQ for international students.

So, they take students from around the globe.

“also the SAT shown on their sites is out of 1600, CR and math. the one you’re talking about is out of 2400”

Where did you find out about this? Can you send me a link?
