My Chances at Buffalo

I'm a white, male, out-of state student, living in New Jersey, and I am going for Political Science and Business.

SAT scores:

Math: 580
Reading: 530
Writing: 510

GPA: 4.51 (on a 6.0 scale)-which is about an 85-90%

Rank: 77/420

Other:

Eagle Scout
Job at Sears (work experience)
Warren County Teenage Republicans
National Honor Society
Band
Academic Team

I also submitted 3 teacher recommendations, and might be getting one from a State Senator. I also wrote an essay, which they say should help.

Do you think I will get accepted, or is it a reach?
Thank you.

My older kid got in with very similar stats 2-years ago, and loved the school. Recommends joining a club or two, and taking advantage of SUNY's opportunities and speakers -- for ex., Colin Powell visited the campus last year.

Good luck!

Thank you.

I think you stand a pretty good shot at getting in. But have you also considered ACTs? I scored far better on those than I did on SATs, and they convert them. The activities definitely help your case though. And about your grades and everything, keep in mind what they post is the middle 50%. There are people who score lower, and I think the 85-90% GPA is okay, as long as it's not with just easy classes.

accepted. just work hard. its easy to get into ub but hard to do well and stay in good standing.
