I think you should retake your SAT and aim for 2250+ to be considered a sting cantidate. I think you should be involved in some extracurricular activities in depth. You also should try to win some minor/major awards, so you can be considered a good candidate. You also should make a winning essay, because it is very important to break ties with other students with the same scores with you. Good Luck! :)

Does anybody elese want to chance me. If not, I ask that this thread be locked.

High Reach

First off, don’t put “college algebra” unless you’re referring to Modern Algebra/Abstract Algebra, which I’m certain you aren’t. You also had a very underwhelming freshman schedule. As is your sophomore schedule.
If you were applying for a college today, it would be a waste of time including a single one of those “Minor Awards”. Don’t list anything unless math based unless you’re a USAMO qualifier or something of equivalent prestige.
Overall, I’d say you need a massive improvement in your academic rigor if you wish to go to HYSMC Schools.

@Pure Physics: First of all, I am taking 3 AP Classes in my sophomore year. How is that underwhelming? I did not take AP World History my freshman year beacuse history is not my Forte. However, I am taking AP Euro sophomore year. Second of all, AP Physics B is a class reserved for a few juniors and mostly seniors. I am the only sophomore taking that class at my school. Third of all, DE: College Algebra is equivalent to Algebra 2 Honors. I am skipping to Pre Calculus.

Do Not tell me that my sophomore schedule is underwhelming because I can guarantee you that it was more challenging that most others. You may have completed these classes earlier than me, but my school won’t let me accelerate any further. Yes, I could have taken AP Calc BC earlier such as in Freshman or Sophomore year, but I wasn’t the best in math. There were seniors in my school who were Dual Enrolled in college taking Multivariable Calculus/Differential Equations/Engineering Dynamics.

Edit: Oh, and also, did you make a 800 in the Math section of the SAT in your VERY first try.

Alright, OP, time to deflate your ridiculous ego

These people are here to help. There is no need to act like a child and be rude

You seem to be lying. Of course, you’ll flame me for it, but if you are living on less than 10k, then you likely wouldn’t have a home or a computer on which to post ■■■■■ threads on CC. Also, with only 10k per year and a dependent child, how is your mother spending hundreds on tests for you to ‘sample’

Is your high school taking the Algebra II credit? Have you asked them?

Most of your achievements are lackluster if everyone at your school is taking college math.

If you really did that well on the SAT Math section, why are you only in Geometry and how did you solve the Algebra II SAT questions?

Get some real EC’s

College math is not equivalent to anything. Realize it is not made for high schoolers and is not an actual high school course

Your schedule isn’t lackluster, but incredibly suspicious

All I’m saying is: ** Either you are fishing for compliments or you are a ■■■■■**

Any other chances? Look bro, I’m not going to flame at anyone else. Also, socring an 800 on the SAT Math isn’t hard at all, (even the Algebra 2 part). I found the geometry part a bit challenging but it was manageable. If no one will respond, I ask that this thread be CLOSED.

I don’t have an (ridiculous) ego, but I do not appreciate the negative criticisms. My schedule is the one of the most intense for any sophomore in my school. In fact, chances are I have a schedule that is harder than 90% of most sophomore’s schedules.

Edit: I am NOT a ■■■■■.

Also, you lied to another poster here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1516458-my-chances-hypsmc-etc.html

You stated that you’d ban the person, but you are clearly not a mod.

Also, for chances, I am asking those questions. If you aren’t lying, I’d still say that CalTech is a bit off, as you couldn’t muster beyond a 135 PSAT. Caltech may be STEM oriented, but their students usually get 2400’s; meaning they can read and write exceptionally well.

I’ll do better in October. Aiming for a 200+. My PSAT Math was a 80 but CR was a 25 and Writing was a 30. I did really bad in those sections.

As for “real math”, I am currently studying AoPS Pre-Calculus.

If no one else want to chance me, I ask that this thread be Closed.

A 25 and a 30?!?!?!?!? You get a 23 to start with, the average is a 50.

No offense, but getting those kind of scores will keep you far away from CalTech.

Really far.

Also, a mod has already closed one of your threads on the count of trolling.

Nonetheless, I did chance you.

I said that CalTech was a far reach and offered some ideas to help you improve those odds. Here they are again:

Learn English. If you are actually fluent, then increase those scores!

Get some EC’s!

Pursue research competitions and other prestigious awards

At least my math was pefect Anyways, does anybody else want to chance me. If not, Please Lock/Close this thread.

bump, Anyone else wanna chance me?

Someone just lock this thread already.

Calm down, it takes time

I think you’re impressive. With an income bracket of $10,000 and the scores you’re getting is pretty impressive. It means you were dedicated. All of the kids I know with those scores are wealthy and their parents hire them tutors, etc. all to get them into these prestigious universities. I’d say go apply. If you don’t get accepted, there’s nothing wrong with you. Simply too many applicants. You’re still going to be impressive. Also, don’t listen to PurePhysics. He’s a ■■■■■… He writes many pessimistic posts to others and makes us feel bad. Don’t take him seriously. He’s egotistical as well. That’ll get him nowhere in life. I don’t think you’re being rude because by defending yourself against him. He’s just trying to block your sunshine with his black clouds. Also, if you look at PurePhysics started threads, you’d see at he’s a ■■■■■. He claims to be in different grades in all. Good luck! :)

CalTech is one of my dream schools as well and I am a fellow concerned class of 2016-er as well! Don’t listen to everyone who says that ALL CalTech wants is the top of the tops. The thing about CalTech is that their admissions process is similar to the University of Oxford’s. Yes academics is a HUGE factor in terms of your admission and while you should be up there, it isn’t all that truly counts. What CalTech searches for is passion. Students who have received notable STEM awards have been rejected due to the lack of passion in their applications. Your PSAT score is quite low, but I do not know if that counts for very much since the PSAT is really there to see if you qualify for the National Merit Scholar award. During your junior year you should retake the PSAT and see if you qualify, it only helps and you can earn a high score through hard work. Also take your SATs during the beginning of senior year or during junior year. I would also go for subject tests in science tests and take AP sciences as well. Or take science college community classes. And really try doing research, it is a fun opportunity that will emphasize your passion for STEM. You are advanced in maths and you are dedicated to moving up so I congratulate you. You are clearly intelligent and hardworking. Apply yourself to passion that is what they want to see. And don’t be afraid of competition. If you love science, that is all that will ever matter in the end. But CalTech is a beautiful and thriving place, so I think everyone understands you anxiety. Tutor children in science or start some kind of a program, surely you’d love to spread the word about science and really attempt to motivate our generation. You are ONLY a sophomore now. Listen to everyone else because you actually do have a lot of time left, do not waste it on here. Just remember that CalTech doesn’t accept mediocre students, not that you are one, and passion is really the key to getting in. Really work as much as you can and tell them how much you want it and really elaborate deeply as to why you would like to attend CalTech. I’m confident that you will make it if you seriously work as hard as you possibly can. Good luck, I hope we are both classmates there in the future!
