my chances at colgate

<p>i'm on the very low side for colgate admissions, but my father is a class of '72, and the accept 47% of legacies as opposed to 27% of entire applicant pool. so i figured it was worth a shot. here goes...</p>

SAT II: 630 lit, 540 us hist.</p>

<p>gpa 3.06 / 4.3 (unweighted)

Volunteer Activities<br>
• Helped to set up for CHS band / chorus concerts; helped to set up for church functions (gr. 9)
• Volunteered at a church summer camp for 15 hours one week a summer, guided elementary age children in daily activities (gr. 10-11)
• Taught religious education at St. John Vianney Church to 7th graders (gr. 11-12)
• Historian of a student group, SOS (Save Our School) which campaigned for a $30 million bond for renovations to improve the condition of Cumberland High School. Made presentations, speeches, attended meetings weekly. (gr. 11-12)
• Co-Founder of the Advancement Coalition; group meant to create a better sense of community at Cumberland High School. Help with plans after high school, and create an understanding and appreciation of their high school career. (gr. 12)</p>

• Successful member of the CHS Parliamentary Debate Team throughout high school, varsity – 2 years, has earned a varsity letter by winning 10 varsity debates, will represent Cumberland High School in District Competition and most likely at the NCFL national tournament in May; plan to participate in college. • Member of the CHS Debate Team Executive Board, make plans for fundraising, tournaments held at CHS, awards ceremony, and other Debate Team events. (gr. 12)
• Taken a sculpture class at Rhode Island School of Design, plan to continue art-related activities in college with a focus on sculpture. (gr. 9)
• Taken a drawing class at Rhode Island College (gr. 10)
• Taken lessons on both acoustic and electric guitar (gr. 9-11)
• Recognized as a member of a state-championship winning softball team, and received citation from a state representative for accomplishment (gr. 9)</p>

<p>as far as money is concerned, my dad has an insurance policy that grows over time and goes to colgate when he dies. something like $15,000.</p>

<p>oh and umm. what are my chances everywhere? i've already gotten into simmons and st. michael's with scholarships but umm..</p>

<p>i visited colgate and thought it was a cool place, but very much into the jock culture. from what i glom from other sources, i hear that legacy status doesn't do much if you don't apply ed. that said, colgate may be a little tough for those sat scores. an ed app would probably have nailed it for you at colgate.</p>
