Admission to Columbia's not some scientific process where you can attach a numerical value to it. It just looks silly to throw out an arbitrary %.

sorry innocentstalker1, but vivasweetlove is right...you can't label people's chances with percentages, and even if you could, the OP would not be "around 80%"...

Good chances. Don't worry about the generic Columbia essay. Many ppl found that really hard, even the ones that did get in. I think you look like a strong candidate. The only thing is that there are many ppl with similar profiles, cos you kinda fit the typical Asian stereotype.

i most definitely disagree with all of you. in fact, i believe i have 95% chances of being correct, and 5% chances of being nearly correct

and please... if there is one thing i know out there, it's the admissions process...

Um, why should all of us listen to your opinion and not that of actual CU alums/students? How many years have you been on the Columbia Alumni Representative Cmte. and interviewing Columbia applicants?

about the % thing, this college admissions book written by a former ivy-league adcom officer says that she determines her clients' %'s too.(she now started a new college counselling company).

and she says that her predictions are usually right

lol i didn't actually talk to her, just read her book. it just says that she gives % chances to her clients(students) like 50% to hopkins, etc...

There isn't an inkling of sarcasm in any of your posts. Any objective reader of your posts would think that you were just clueless. You're either lying to cover for your earlier mistake or simply not very good at sarcasm.

Regardless, I put your chances much lower. Two things that need to come out of your application strong and clear:

1) Superlative success in one or two areas. If it's leadership, then great. If it's music or scientific research, great. But don't just show effort and success, demonstrate excellence.

2) Genuine passion for one or two areas. If it's language, great, if it's science, great. But there are many kids out there who claim a passion for a particular area, and have no real way of showing it (or, worse, are faking it). Figure out how to prove it to a casual observer.
