Hey guys,

I'm applying for fall 2012 transfer to Cornell (freshmen now) CAS (econ major). I go to a top 5 school in the US right now with a phenomenal econ dept but I'm not happy here. I currently have a 3.8-9 GPA and hopefully can maintain that through next quarter. I had a 3.9-4.0 at a top high school in NYC and got a 2260 on the SAT (1480) and a 790 and a 730 on my two SAT IIs. My ECs in high school: editor of newspaper, lax captain, mentor to 7th graders, chess team for 8 years, and photography (for newspaper and classes). In college im in a community service club, have a leadership position in the sports business team (student-run club), play club lax, intramurals, and teach chess to kids at a nearby public school.

I'll hopefully have good reqs from 2 teachers (one is my mirco teacher) and plan on putting a ton of time/effort into my essays, what do you think my chances are?

Also I’m an NYC resident and dont need any FA if that matters.

your chances is high. You’ll get accepted, don’t sweat it. Just make sure to get some prof recs if possible.

Transferring to a lower ranked Ivy?! That’s blasphemy.

I’m joking. Glad that there are people who care more about schools than rank.

I think you have a very good shot at Cornell. Good luck.

Thanks for all the responses, anyone else?

Yeah you have a good chance at Cornell. Go where you’re gonna be most successful and happy! Are you a sophomore transfer or a junior transfer, because it matters a lot! Anyways good luck, and I’d be surprised if you didn’t get in. Chance me please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/1252109-transferring-out-nyu-help-me-fellow-ccers.html

I’m a sophomore xfer, do you think that helps or hurts? Thanks for the response I’ll chance you

chance me i’ll chance back

I second what other posters have said. I’d be more surprised if you didn’t get in than if you did. Out of curiosity, why do you want to leave Columbia?

IS there a specific answer you are looking for? I don’t see why you continue to bump this thread. As many have stated, you have a very good chance at cornell. Stop seeking attention.

@kawnseffect - A little harsh, but you do have a point. OP, it’s okay to need reassurance, but everyone is pretty much telling you good things, so I would just focus on making your app the best it can be and recognize that after that it’s out of your hands.

@kawnseffect @francisvdahlmann - Sorry, not trying to seek out attention, just get a couple more opinions. But you’re right, just going to focus on trying to make my app the best I can. Thanks for the resposnes

No worries, I completely understand how stressful all of this is. I think the fact that you’re concerned, while I’m sure that it’s unpleasant, shows that you really do care about Cornell, which, with your stats, is definitely going to be the most important factor.
