Work Experience
? Tutoring (11th-12th grade)

Summer Activities/Research
? Tennessee Governor?s School for the Sciences (12th grade summer)
Governor?s School is a pre-collegiate program for students interested in science that took place at the University of Tennessee over five weeks. There I took a course in website design, logical thinking, Physics: Intro to Quantum Mechanics (Physics 240). In addition to classes, we had weekly lectures from UT professors regarding their research and experienced a small taste of college life.
? Oak Ridge National Laboratory Research
A senior project class, I conduct research on adipose fat tissue and the genetics behind it.
My mentor is Dr. Brynn Voy and is part of the Genomics team at the lab. I go into the lab twice a week for about 3 and half hours. My research consists of correlating adipose fat cell size to specific loci across the genome. The most recent results correlate the size of fat cells with a locus on chromosome 15 and on chromosome 19. In addition, using the database web QTL, our data correlates with data regarding the effectiveness of the immune system to fight of influenza. Now that we have identified the specific loci, research can be directed at the specific gene.

This is basically the resume I sent to my colleges. What do ya guys think?

Also to mention, i am ranked 6/655 students, and I've taken all Honors and AP courses possible.

Oh yea, my major:
Biomedical Engineering.

84 views and no posts? I know its alot to read but it's exactly what colleges will see.

It looks pretty good to me :) Your EC's are very good.

ok..... im liking that GPA and the extracurrics...... but i would bring up the SAT I if i wanted to a good contender

what's up with the questions marks? looks solid. I agree. just bring up your SAT I, and that would help a lot.

I know, Standardized testing is my weakness, I'm terrible at it. My ACT is pretty solid...not fantastic I know but the rest of my app is good. I know I'm going to have 2 good rec's from a teacher and my mentor and one glowing rec. Also, my essays are solid, especially my "why duke and engineering". It's very powerful....

Gah I hate testing.

You look pretty solid for Vandy and Wash U. Duke's a bit of a reach. You're definitely in their pool of "oh we'll definitely look at this application twice." I'm also applying to Duke and Wash U. Maybe see you there!

p.s. Don't worry too much about the testing!
