My chances at Engineering?

That is both a logic fail, and a “using USNWR as the end-all be-all” fail. Seriously kid, do you think that USNWR tells the whole story? Or that GT is really better than, say, Michigan?

You could have suggested any one of those schools on there and I still would have called you random. Why? Well partially because of the fact that you suggested a different school when he wasn’t asking for different school recommendations, and partially because you seemingly just grabbed a single school off of the arbitrary (albeit best available) ranking system.

GT is a very selective school. Out of all of the schools on that Top 10 (11) list, Purdue would be the one that he would have the best chance at. Maybe half of the rest he would have a decent shot at because of SAT scores, but most top schools do care about GPA, believe it or not. Bad GPA often has a good correlation with poor work ethic when coupled with high test scores, so whether that is true or not, schools are almost always cautious with this cases. His SAT scores are excellent, but that GPA could potentially be a killer unless he has a good explanation for it.
