I'm starting college in the fall as a freshman its at a community college though, I know after two years I have to transfer to a 4 year school but i'm wondering if you can get into one of the premed programs at schools if your a transfer student. I plan to transfer into Rutgers but i'm not sure if realistically i'm even a candidate. if anyone has any experience with being a transfer from a community school to one of these types of programs can you tell me what the process will be like? also if going to the community school will hinder my chances at being accepted into a premed program/ medical school later. thanks

My advice? Don’t worry about coming from a community college. As long as you take as many pre-reqs for med school before you go to a 4 year school, you’ll be fine. You might want to volunteer at a local hospital as well as, if the opportunity presents itself, do some research. Schools like to see a passion for healthcare running through your blood and you will look more serious to others in the pre-med slots at rutgers. I have seen plenty of physicians come with AA’s and AS’s to medical schools. It is not a set back, but a different beginning. One to be taken advantage of.

Good Luck,
