My Chances at getting into a top school (UPenn, Amherst, Middlebury, Michigan)

Entering junior year i had a:
3.87 w gpa
3.78 uw gp

1940 psat (the mistakes a made were unbelievably stupid)
Hoping for at least a 2100 single sat, 2200+ superscore

White/Jewish/Competitive small school (200 students)
top 25%

have taken AP European History, Honors English, Honors Spanish 2 years

This year:

AP Language and Comp
AP American
AP Psych
Honors Spanish

Regents Chem/Math B Regents (7th grade nightmare made it impossible to be on either the math or science accelerated track)

By the end of the year: I am realistically hopeful my w gpa will be a 3.9 including grades 9/10

ECs:

2 years of varsity soccer (1 captain)
2 year varsity basketball
2 years varsity baseball (1 captain)

Attended summer camp for 6 years, received "camper captain" award, 4 out of 30 campers, i guess that demonstrates leadership haha idk

Have a lot of community service hours

I am visiting Birma(Myanmar) with my family over December break to participate in a medical clinic. I am hoping this experience will help shape me as a person.

Mom went to Penn
Dad went to Michigan
Brother is at Penn

by the way i attend a top 100 national school which only gives a .3 weight for AP/Honors

You’re not a senior yet, and you have no real test scores to give, so none of us can give you an accurate chancing to any stretch of the imagination, but since you are legacy for UPenn/Mich, they’d be matches for you if your predictions for scores/grades come true.

yeah i know, but the main thing i really wanted to find out was if i had good extracurriculars. do you think my demonstration of leadership in multiple competitive sports and dedication to music will have a strong affect on whether i get accepted or not?

Dumb mistakes are made on SATs. You need your SATs to know for sure, but yous eem like a very strong applicant with sports and music ability. Legacy might also help you.

You should be strong for Penn. You have some things that will hurt you, but strong ECs, fairly strong GPA, great test scores!

I’m not really familiar (as far as admissions) with the other schools, but you are a strong canidate.

anybody else

Music + sports do not make for very interesting ECs, but you have a legacy so…

that’s hilarious because i know an admission officer at Northwestern that told me “dedication and leadership shown in a sport is a lot more impressive than after school clubs.” i asked why, and she told me because they know that showing leadership in the clubs isn’t really leadership, it’s that studious group of kids trying to beef up their college application.

i’ve realized that it’s not worth it to bother trying to become a secretary of the economic analysts discussion club

buuuuuuuuuump

anyone else

…

annnnnybody?

Legacy will definitely help. Colleges don’t care what ECs you do as long as you show A LOT of dedication and impact.

Make sure you have VERY solid test scores and do whatever you can to raise your GPA. Also, look for ways to make a difference in whatever activities you do and bring that out.

Good luck!
