My Chances at GW, American, BC, etc...

Alright, I'm looking to apply to:

George Washington U. - ED
BU - RD
BC - EA
Wake Forest - RD
American U. - RD
Tufts? - RD

I just took the new SAT and ACT w/ Writing for the first time, no practice, nothing.

SAT: (EEK!)
1910
710 CR
600 M
600 W (9/12 Essay)

ACT:
30 Composite
26 English
28 Math
29 Science
35 Reading

Now, I know that my ACT's are a bit higher than my SAT's, and I submitted both, but would only take the ACT again since it replaces both the SAT's AND the SAT II's at all the schools I'm applying to EXCEPT Wake, but, I'm not too worried about Wake, as BC and GW are my top school's. So, my question, should I retake the ACT in the fall?

Rest of my stats:

I'm a rising Senior....just got done with Junior year

Stats:

GPA: ~3.477 unweighted, ~4.0 weighted, these will hopefully be a bit higher by the end of first semester Senior year.
Rank: Unsure, was around 90/660, but should be higher when I go back, that rank was before my 5.0 weighted GPA for 2nd semester this past year, hoping for top 10%, was ~15%

Classes this year:
AP Psychology (A's)
AP US History (A's)
AP English Language & Comp. (A's)
Precalculus Honors (C's and B's)
Physics Honors (A's and B's)
Debate VI Honors (A's)
Government Honors (A's)

Note:
Brought Physics from a "B" to an "A" from 1st to 2nd semester, and brought Precalc from a "C" to a "B" from 1st to 2nd semester, so, rising GPA...

Extra-Curric:

Debate Team (~325 NFL Points...for those who know what those are), this is my passion, I've competed in 5 different event categories as well, and placed in 3 of them (Student Congres, Oral Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Public Forum, Policy)
President of Debate
VP of Law Club
Mock Trial Team
Social Studies Honor Society
JETS

Community Service: Camp Counselor at local summer camp: ~100 Hours, helping with middle school debate team: ~15+ hours
Work: Public Library (20 Hours/Week), hope this looks good since it's for the state.

Background: Single-Parent Home, Dad pays no child support, etc. Roman Catholic, Irish-Italian, Public School in Florida

Looking to major: Poli. Sci., Government, Political Media
Minor: Journalism/Psych

Courses for Senior year:
AP Euro
AP US Gov
AP Microeconomics
Independent Study (AP World History)
AP Lit
AP Stats
Debate VIII Honors

What do you guys think, am I being realistic, what are my chances at those schools with those stats?

Also, probably applying ED to GW since it's my first choice, along with BC for Early Action since I really like both schools, is this a bad idea?

Thank You,

Ben

ull get into gwu no prob

^ Thanks!

Any other opinions...

BUMP, I really would like some input :)

Any other opinions, specifically on BC and GW, if I'll get any aid, etc?

Also, do you think I should apply EA to BC and ED to GW?

Considering Northeastern, Holy Cross, and Emerson to possibly get more aid in Boston...

BUMP again, any ideas on the above, chances, etc?

Thanks!

Where is everyone!? Hehe

I only know a lot about American and I can tell you that with your grades, you'll get in without any problems. DC would be a great place to go to school, especially if you are into politics or journalism... or anything, really.

That said though, American's admissions standards are becoming more difficult with every year that passes. It seems like everyone wants to go there now-a-days.

^ Alright, thanks a lot for the input!

Anyone else?

Any other ideas...

~Ben

BUMP!

Thanks,
Ben

BUMP again, any more input??

Thanks!

Any other ideas?

Looking at your senior year schedule, you have no math, science or foreign language. I don't know if you did this on purpose? but you may want to consider reconsidering that.

Yes I do, I'm taking AP Statistics, last time I checked, that was math, I don't enjoy foreign language at my school and I'm not taking a year now after not taking it last year, that would be pointless. As for science, I was planning on taking Environmental, but decided it was too ridiculous a schedule with debate and my job and everything, but I'll probably still take the test.

Also, any other suggestions for schools for me with strong Poli Sci on the east coast in urban areas?

Thanks!

BUMP, any more input to above questions and chances?

Why not retake the ACT? My son did that and went up from a 31 to a 32. More importantly, his math went up from a 28 to a 31. He had no real time to study since he decided to do this at the last moment. His SAT I was not as high as he liked so he took the ACT standby.

Unlike the SAT, you have the luxury of witholding or sending in any score you want. In Texas, there is even an ACt being given in early September. f you've got the money to retake the test, I would do it.

^ Yeah, I probably will retake them in September. Any other opinions on my chances?

ive been looking at many of those same schools; from what i know it seems like tufts is a lot harder to get into rd as apposed to ed. but it doesnt seem like thats one of your top choices anyways. id say you have more than a solid shot at gw ed so good luck and enjoy your senior year!!!
