I wouldn’t refer to Johns Hopkins, Columbia, or Georgetown as safety schools. You’re very qualified :), but you’ll be competing in the international pool with other high-achieving students from Singapore and the South/East Asian continent. JHU and Georgetown are competitive enough that decisions are unpredictable, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a waitlist/deny from Columbia.

Your posted profile needs to be edited as it is too lengthy, and includes irrelevant material. For example, the Harvard Summer School notations are nice but not significant vis-a-vis other applicants to these highly selective schools. Also, I think that your insignificant notations cheapen your much more significant accomplishments; this reminds me of a salesman “talking” himself out of a sure sale as the more I read, the less I’m buying your accomplishments. Your chances at Harvard, Yale and Princeton are similiar to other well qualified applicants, but I don’t really get the feeling that I want to know more about you. It is very important to make a reader of applications see you, and like you, as a person, and not just as serial over-accomplished student. Please take my comments as an effort to help through constuctive criticism. Be careful not to exaggerate, as admissions staff at these schools are highly intelligent and quite experienced. Good luck to you!

birthofthecool: Sorry if I offended you, but I am trying to be helpful. Excessive material such as noting “junior aviator’s course” and then “basic flying course” on the line above “private pilot’s license”, is just unnecessarily padding the profile and risks losing the reader’s interest.

frenchdude: perhaps, you’d like to elaborate as to why u think i would be rejected?

tyler: thanks a lot m8. yes ur right, college admissions are getting crazier by the year.

abg41: again, pls explain why. i always hope to improve myself.

jerseyboy: well im just stating the schools my guidance councellor wanted me to include as safety schools. sorry.

birthofthecool: Thanks for the encouragement!!! :)

icy9ff8: You are very right and I agree with you. Though there are a few unnecessary inclusions there, the majority are actually pretty good accomplishments in Singapore. How should I include them in a manner to not make them lengthy?

hraghuvir, i’m not a guidance counselor, but if I were in your position, I would apply to your state school as a safety (you’d probably be a numbers admit at your state school, where your class rank and SAT scores would be high enough to get you in)

Columbia’s admit rate is very similar to HYP. I would say that you have a decent shot at HYP…just keep in mind that I’m a high school senior as well so I’m probably not the best source on admissions chances.

@castle: That’s right my friend. I was very worried about my freshman and sophomore grades. What is the weightage given to them actually? Would be glad to know.

Temima: thanks a lot for your encouragement. I will carry that on with me And yes, I did enjoy my experiences.

phonyreal98: yes, i have done that as well. national univeristy of singapore is pretty good as well (top 20 in the world). SAT is not needed here. Thanks a lot for your advise as well!

Assuming ur applying early with no senior grades, ur gpa would only be 3.43. How are you top 5% w/those grades? Good chance as anyone else but those freshmen and sophomore grades will really hurt.
