The Strong Man Club is my main EC. I've been working out since sixth grade. I plan on using it as my biggest accomplishment, and I will send professional pictures and maybe a video. I posted some pics below:

thats so funny how you think its a hook for Harvard! its like that guy on a previous post that asked if he should put that he has won several poker tournaments and is really good at gambling on his college application.
sorry...with your stats, you do not have a chance.

come on Grad '06, you can't say that.
thatguyjake, are those the only ECs uve got? are u sure u havent volunteered anywhere along the line or started a band or something? because u could make up for your scores by having good ECs. otherwise, i must admit ur at a disadvantage... but don't let that stop you from applying. if you get stellar recs and write a mindblowing essay... u might have a shot

I think you have as good of a shot as anyne else. I like the bodybuilding as an EC. Make sure you emphasize in your personal statement how bodybuilding has shaped you (excuse the pun) as a person..and more importantly, its significance and impact. That would make a really interesting essay, and originality, if not anything else, is very important in a college essay.

In terms of the scores, how many times have you taken the SAT I? If only once, then simply retake 2 more times next October and November. Use the official collegeboard blue book for some help, or barrron's SAT prep book. Simply review a little of the material each day over the summer, and take practice tests about once a week. If you do this well, I'm sure you can get a score around 2200 which will definitely improve your chances.

I think the most important aspects of your application will be your essays and interviews, where you would explain the significance of your ECs, why they mean so much to you, what you do exactly, etc. You can either come off as someone very interesting and unique, or a cocky meathead.

What do you do exactly at your clubs? Do you help out newcomers who want to get fit? Is it a forum for advice and help? Or is it just a club where other kids who are as buff as you come and pat each other on the back? As you can see I've no idea what you really do in your club or how you are in real life, but from this perspective I definitely do think you have a chance to mold yourself favorably to the adcoms.

Obvious as this sounds, I don't think you'd get in for being buff (after all, there are plenty of recruited athletes who work out a lot). Personally, I think you should focus less on your buffness and more on the process that led to your fit body.

What school you go to? Anyway, you prolly need to explain the importance of body building and why you like to do it (something other than,"I look hot"). Also, you have to bring the SAT score up. Were you national merit?

definitely retake sats and maybe math ii. you have a chance, but just be sure to really detail how the bodybuilding has shaped your character. just sending pictures and not going much deeper than that could actually hurt you by making you seems quite superficial. that is never good.

I have a 35 composite on my ACT, but my SAT 1 scores are a little low at 2270 (790 W, 740M, 740 CR..I was a little tired from AP exams and perhaps not my sharpest). The old SAT portion only adds up to 1480. My class rank (1/295), and GPA (4.0 unweighted) are fine. My EC aren't numerous, but the ones I have demand a lot of time, and I have done well in those (Debate, Orchestra). I have done my share of Volunteer work at Red Cross, and Volunteer America.

I come from a Midwestern school. My ethnicity is half white/half Asian Indian. I am confident that I will get above 2300 on my SATII's. The big question...should I retake my SAT1 in October, or my chance will depend on other factors like essays etc?

I think we need to know your GPA/rank to make a better prediction. However, bodybuilding is quite unique for a harvard applicant and has potential to help your way if you use it correctly (ie. by not being arrogant about it).

Vick, please start another thread about your chances, rather than to insert it in someone else's.

Actually, HH05, the answer is all of the above. It's interesting that you note that, since as early at 8th grade, I was nowhere as fit as I am now. This is why I was planning on using it as my biggest accomplishment, and do truly appreciate your kind words.

I'd rather not reveal the school, and no I am not national merit. I am ranked 3/70 in my class. 3.9 GPA.
