My chances at Ivy League please

Hello everyone, here are my school choices by order of preference:

Princeton
Harvard
Yale
U Penn
Columbia
Cornell
Washington U. in St. Louis
Brown
U. of Rochester

I am born in China, but have Canadian Citizenship, and currently studying in a public school in New York State.

I speak fluently French, English, and Chinese.
I lived in Quebec and received French education for four years, with little training in English. Then I came to U.S. for high school, with only basic knowledge in English.

Academics:
GPA: 4.0
SAT I: 800 MAth; 710 Verbal; 1510 total
SAT II: 800 French; 800 World History; 790 in Math; 790 in Bio.
A total of 12 AP's:
2 in Sophomore Year: French language and World History (didn't take class, but took exam): both received 5.
5 in Junior Year: Bio, French literature (independant study), American history:5s. English, Physics B: 4s.
5 in Senior Year: Chem, Physics C, Calculus, English, AP government.

Extracurriculars:

School Newspaper writer (soph), editor (junior), then editor-in-chief (senior).
Model UN chair, received many awards
Science olympiad: a bronze metal.
Math team: County All-star
FBLA member for 1 year and a leadership position for senior year: won local recognition.
Track Team member for 1 year.
Won a national recognition for a French competition (I competed in a group of people who received education in French-speaking country)

Member of local Red Cross: volunteer at a Refugee settlement organization, a local museum, and local UN organization.

Decent essay; decent recommandations, but not great.

Intend to study biotechnology or pharmacy.

Questions:

Are most of these schools out of reach??? There is some family pressure on me getting into a top university.
How do I make the most out of my rather weird background?

Please write something!!

forgot one thing. I had a little bit of language barrier as a freshman, so all my extracurriculars started after Freshman year.

stats look good, and your ecs are decent... how are your grades though?

if you are in top 5%, you are really competetive applicant

Very nice, especially your GPA and awards! I think you have a great shot, as good as most people going in, so go ahead and apply and find out! ^_^ And I know all about family pressure - my parents were so into Yale that I planned to go there for a good three-quarters of my life until I went to UCONN and fell absolutely in love with it :) Best of luck, I'm crossing my fingers for you!

Nice EC and AP scores. Descent SATI, great SATII's, though it'd have been nice if you took Writing (in fact this is a requirement in most schools??). With an unpretentious, unique essay that describes your family situation, I think you'll definitely get into every one you listed except for HYP. Not saying you won't get into HYP, but they are just so damn tough... hopefully your essays do the job.

Sorry, I forgot to add that I have 730 on SAT II Writing.

Wow. That is amazing. I think the APs are most impressive. Of course these schools are not out of your reach! Amazing

wow, i would have loved to have your stats on my applications, lol. best of luck!

Nice stats.
well, you're intending to study biotechnology or pharmacy... Is there anything that sets you apart in this field? (e.g. awards, volunteer work/community service) Any kind of thing that relates to your major that shows you would be a strong candidate will help you a lot.

Thank you for all these encouragements, but can someone tell me areas I need to improve to get accepted to those schools?

Anyone? Please wrtie something on my chances and improvements I need.

why are you asking people what to improve now?? its a little late for that

as i said before, anything that sets you apart would be nice..

It's kind of late for improvement now. But tbh, no matter what you do (unless you win some huge national award); your chances at the top schools in your list are not gonna get any better than the (really good) chances you have now.

I would emphasize the French speaking Canadian of Chinese extraction angle. Much more attractive than (another) asian from New York. The point being, schools strive for ethnic and geographic diversity, and there are many high achieving asian-americans, esp in NY state.

Total volunteer service: about 150 hours. Good enough?

you are very solid and have as good a shot as anyone at most of the schools you applied to. It'll all come down to presentation, but i'll go out on a limb and say you will definately be accepted to at least some of the schools you applied to

150 ihours sn't anything extrodinary, I don't think that would give you as much of a boost as Njres said the French speaking Canadian of Chinese decend thing. Good luck, you have a good chance!

thank you all
