My chances at Middlebury/Brown

Hello, CC! I am tentatively looking at Middlebury and Brown as reach schools, but I'm not sure what my odds of getting in are. I'd really appreciate it if you would give me your opinion!

I'm a white female who will be entering her senior year this fall.
GPA: Not exactly sure. Weighted, it's a solid A, unweighted probably about a B+
I've taken four AP tests (Human Geo: 5, World History: 5, US History: 4, English Lang: 5), but I was enrolled in AP Calculus as well (have been taking math one grade ahead since third grade). Got a D, so I didn't take the test. I've been in all honors classes when they weren't available as AP (honors English as a frosh and soph; honors bio, chem, and physics)
My senior year schedule is AP French, AP Psych, AP Government, AP European History, German II (studied German I over the summer), Chinese II, and a college-credit class called Western Literature and Thought, which sort of doubles as AP English Lit.

I also took a four-week intensive Japanese class at Beloit College earlier this summer, which I received an A in. I was the only high school student there.

I've taken the ACT twice.
Composite- 34 | 35
Math- 34 | 35
Reading- 36 | 36
English- 35 | 32
Science- 29 | 35
Combined English/Writing- 31 | 29
Writing-7 | 8

I've taken the SAT once, but I'll be retaking it in October.
Total-2180
Math- 690
Reading- 760
Writing- 730
I'll be taking the SAT subject tests for US History, French listening, and Japanese listening in November.

Awards:
In 2009, I won a couple of awards at the state math team competition: 1st place Calculator Team, and 2nd place Frosh-Soph 2-Person Team.
Based on my PSAT, I was a National Merit Scholar Commended Student. The semifinalists come out in September, so I may or may not be one.

School Activities:
Debate (9 -12)
Math Team (9-12)
Gay-Straight Alliance (10-12)
Scholastic Bowl (10)
French club (9-12)

I don't much in the way of community activities aside from a few one-off charity events.

With schools as competitive as the two you mentioned, that D grade is going to seriously imperil your application. Without a satisfactory reason for this grade, you will be at a serious disadvantage, regardless of your ACT math score.

I think both of these schools are big reaches for you.
I think Brown is pretty much out of reach. I know many students this past year with quite a bit higher stats than you who didn’t even get waitlisted.

I’m in agreement with soze on both those schools, particularly Brown. What other schools are you looking at? Your ACT score in particular is very strong and you have lots of schools out there that would love to have you.

Thanks for your opinions! I am looking at several other schools that aren’t as exclusive–Beloit College seems to be my top choice right now.
