My Chances at NYU and BC?

Hey all.

I'd really appreciate someone going over my credentials and giving me an idea of where I stand for these schools. NYU (Stern) and BC (Carroll). I'm sorta-kinda-confident that I could get into these schools...I'm just worried that math isn't my strong suit.

Activities/Honors
Varsity Volleyball
National Honor Society
French and Latin National Honors
AP Scholar With Distinction
Assistant Stage manager of my school's stage crew

Grades/Scores

GPA
94.15, I have no clue what that is out of 4.
(My first quarter average for this year was a 95.1, so hopefully I'll see an increase before I'm through with the semester.)

SAT (taken once so far, with little preparation)
Critical Reading: 700
Math: 610 (I told you.)
Writing: 710

SAT II
Math I: Taken. It was such a disaster that I probably won't even look at the score. I'd rather not talk about this one.
US History: 680
Literature: 760

AP
World History: 3
European History: 4
US History: 4
English Lang and Comp: 5

Current Courses:
AP Psychology
AP Literature
AP Government
Meteorology
Calculus
Religion 4

A couple of notes:

My college essay, in my opinion, is pretty good. My current AP Lit teacher grades the exam in May, and he said it was great, so hopefully that's all where it should be.

I, however, am an idiot. In my rush to finish the common app and experience the triumph that would come with being finished, forgot to add the majority of my community service to it. So I have a separate resume that I plan on emailing to my local college reps in hopes that they will add it to my file. So far, two schools that I applied to (Fordham and UConn) did email me back and confirm that they added it to my file, and will consider it. I'm just hoping that it's the same story with the other schools that I'm applying to.

I'm currently considering switching my interest from Marketing to English, but my only hangups are the relative difficulty that majoring in English will bring. If you've read this, thanks. If you haven't, I really have nothing to say to you. You won't be reading this. I could say whatever I want, I suppose. But I won't, because I'm a nice guy.

Bah, I made a mistake and it’s not letting me edit for some reason. I have an AP Scholar with Honor award. My apologies.

Bump. And with that problem I described, with leaving off a lot of my service, what would you guys recommend doing?

I’m sorta-kinda-confident that I could get into these schools…

You have a shot, but I wouldn’t be “overly” confident… I think both would have to be considered low reaches, based on your stats/resume, but it’s hard to say without knowing your rank or decile. Stern has a particularly competitive applicant pool and so does CSOM. I think you are going about your missing CS the right way. Hopefully BC will make the necessary corrections because they regard this outside the classroom stuff very well.

Would you say that if I got my math up to about a 700, and my GPA up to about a 95, that I would have a shot?

And how about if I were to apply as an English major?

Any time you can raise your test scores and/or raise your GPA, your chances go up. I am not familiar with the applicant pool in English. Since my D is in CSOM, I happen to know a little more about it than the others.

Bump? I’d like a few more opinions. I also plan on applying to SUNY Stony Brook, Syracuse, and Iona.

Also, I recently got my Math I score back, and I got a 650. Is this competitive for the business schools that I’m applying to?

Anyone? PLEASE?

bump up your math score a fair amount (700 like you said is a good target) and you should have a decent chance. however, stern is pretty hard to get into so i wouldn’t get my hopes up =/ could try econ in cas then xfer as a soph?
BC Carroll… im actually not sure, i’d say a high-match if you can get your SAT up nearer 700
also, i’m a bit confused as to what you will be majoring in- you say you’re applying to both schools’ business schools, but then you say you’re going to major in english?

your main issue is that these schools are like the ivies you never are in so have some good safeties like wisconsins business school chance me back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1041167-chance-me-i-will-chance-you-back.html
