AP Scores - GoPo [1], Lang [2], USH [1]
*Theatre - I was a high school play (school's first one) and went to a competition from March - May. I'll be doing it again this year, maybe joining the thespian society, and doing dinner plays.

I took my first SAT in June and received a 1330 :
430 Reading
400 Math
500 Writing
(I plan on taking it again in October and November)

So are I have joined the latin club and beta club but that's about it. I plan on, this year, joining environmental, international, mentoring, and page turners.

They are both my dreams schools. I have a feeling about SUNY Purchase, but NYU I'm not sure. What are my chances and how can I improve them? Also, do I need to take economics? Thank you ^^

P.S.
SCAD
University of GA
University of Michigan
UCLA
Columbia U
Emerson

For NYU and SUNY Purchase, to which schools do you plan to apply?

These schools are incredibly competitive and, though they aren’t looking for mainly high SAT scores, a minimum 600 per section is typically expected.

For the most part, your SAT scores are on the low side and your extracurricular activities are minimal. Try taking a few SAT II’s or attempting the ACTs (which some find more digestible than the SATs).

In terms of your schools, here goes…
NYU: medium reach
SCAD: low reach
University of GA: low reach
University of Michigan: high reach
UCLA: medium reach
Columbia U: high reach
SUNY: medium reach

I think love4medicine is being very generous, I would cross NYU, UMichigan, UCLA, and especially Columbia off the list. I don’t know much about the others.

Purchase seems to be a much more realistic option but your current SATs are still a little low. Do you know your class rank?

My main goal has been trying to get in to Tisch Performing Arts for Theatre and Drama. I know my SAT is low, that’s why I’m planning on taking it again along with my ACT. I also plan on doing more clubs this year that will show my creative side toward the school.

Is there anyway I can improve my chances of getting into any of these schools? If not, what colleges would you recommend for me? I plan on majoring in Theatre/Drama.

Joining more clubs, especially as a new member, your sr yr of HS will not help. Adcomms consider those students “serial joiners”. They look for continuiity, consistency and commitment.

Realistically…
UMich-mid-high reach
UCLA-super reach
Emerson-high reach
Columbia-1 in a million chance
SUNY’s-???
NYU-mid-high reach
UGA-raise your SAT’s and your probably in (I don’t know much about this school)??
To be realistic, you need to raise your SAT’s to above 2000 (easier said than done). I suggest trying the ACT. I think you need to be realistic and start looking at less selective colleges. No doubt your going to college, but probably not one in US News top 25. By the way, what’s Algebra III? If your really set on going to a UCLA or an emory, etc. you should go to community college and transfer.

If you have not already, you should post on the Theatre and Drama Majors forum… Tish and SUNY Purchase are both audition based schools. So, in addition to being within reach academically you will have to be admitted based upon your audition.

UMich, UCLA, Emerson are also audition based programs.

At audition based programs you need to be admitted to the program to declare the major. At some schools the admissions processes are separate… meaning you could be academically admitted to the university, but not to the program, but still go to the university in a different major. At others the admissions process is blended… meaning you must be admitted to both the program and the school. If you are not admitted to both you will never know if you might have been admitted to the program, but not the school or the school, but not the program… in this case you are simply not admitted.

UMich, NYU, UCLA, and Emerson are all schools that consider academics as a large part of the process. Your grades and test scores are low for these schools.

Columbia University will only look at grades and test scores. Your grades and test scores are low.

I do not know enough about UGA or SCAD to comment.

What region of the country do you call home? Are finances an issue? How much time can you take off to school to audition for programs?

Again – I suggest that you post on the Theatre & Drama Majors forum if you have not already done so.

Feel free to PM with more specific questions or info. :)
