I had my Interview on Dec 17th and it was GREAT. I met with Kristine Sawicki, she was really nice, and we even went over a bit. Though there were things and questions I forgot to say, I hope my questions werent to superficial (I asked about Portland influence on their Art Major, the Philosophy behind Humanities 110, and the specifics about Reed Art Week).

I really want to go to Reed for lots of things, the perfect blend of acedemic rigor and good fun, large respect for art, plenty of eccentricity and quirkyness, just a really fun place.

So...do you think I have a chance?

P.S. I have read that SAT disclaimer....but I am a bit skeptical.

Honestly, I don’t think standardized test scores matter THAT much. My best friend applied ED (got in), but made a note that SAT scores weren’t even required. What this means is that your essays have to be outstanding, and speak for who you are. From what I understand, Reed is all about the individual; their Adcom probably has the most holistic approach out of any other school I know.

Don’t stress too much. I think the rest of your profile is pretty good, just make sure your essays highlight that. Also, don’t be afraid to contact someone in the theatre department. See if you can charm them enough to put a nice little letter in your file. My best friend met with a professor who was conducting research, and had such a nice chat with him that he offered her an internship, should she be accepted.

Best of luck! =]

SAT or ACT scores ARE required. Subject tests SATII are optional. Call and talk to your regional counselor for advice re application.

Oh, you’re right. My mistake!

So, i’m in love with Reed as well. I visited, and OMG awesome, message me if you want to know more. Anyway, if your writting sample is good, I think overall though you should be okay, they are looking for hard workers, but quirky so they bring new things to the table.

Thanks guys. I am taking the most rigorous work load and getting good grades so Im sure that will help, I’ve had my essay in my mind for a while, going to write it soon.

Are you applying ED II or RD? I had rather horrible standardised test scores as well and I got in as an international student with Aid. So I’m sure they look at other factors more generously; not like some colleges that use factors like GPA and SAT as cut-offs and then consider other factors.
