During this summer, I am interning/researching at a University in Korea. Currently, I am researching at the Organic chem and Immunololgy/Biology facility.
At the internship, I wrote a book about the basis of immunology to help the incoming undergraduate students at the college. I am thinking about publishing this book publicly on Amazon.

Even though I gained a lot of research experience and wrote a book on this year’s internship, I haven’t done much science extracurriculars or competitions like sci oly, ISEF, science fairs, USABO, and etc…
I did do competition for State KSEA (Korean Science Engineering Association) during middle schools where I placed 3rd in math (for two years) and 1st in engineering for both years. Many of the people applying to this program are participants at national science fairs, research labs for many years, and won many awards from science competitions.

My questions are:

  1. Do you think I stand a chance against those competitive students?
  2. Do you think it’s possible to write down my KSEA competition awards I got during my middle school years?
  3. Do you think my experience in the internship, perfect SAT subject test scores, immunology book I wrote, AP classes taken would suffice? Would those achievements overshadow my lack of participation at science fairs + lack of awards?

Why do you think that someone on a random forum will be able to tell your chances at one of the top high school programs

Hi! RSI '17 here.

You sound like an impressive individual. I would definitely say that it is worth applying to RSI if science research is something that you really love.
It’s not really possible to predict ahead of time whether or not you will get in. There are more than fifty qualified students in the US. Many very talented people will get rejected.
That being said, not every student at RSI has won science research competitions. People at RSI have very different backgrounds in STEM. I’d say the only constant in RSI students is a passion for their research, and a willingness to work hard.

I’m fairly sure middle school awards will not be relevant to your application.

Good luck!
