My chances at TCNJ

First and foremost I just made an account on this site so my ability to figure out what i'm doing may not be the best.

I am a senior at the Union County Magnet High School and my top choice college is The College of New Jersey. After reading a variety of forums that discussed the type of students accepted there i have become really nervous to my chances. My SAT score is a flat 1900 and my qpa is an 85 which translates to somewhere around a 3.0 gpa. I have a few decent EC's i.e. the my hometowns Varsity Tennis Captain (We were the worst team in the county). I was wondering if anyone on here could evaluate my position and let me know what they think my chances are.
Thank you

For now I’d say TCNJ is a reach. If you could retake the sat and score 2,000+ then your chances will be greatly improved. Your EC’s are alright, but your GPA hurts you (which your probably aware of).

What’s your race and class rank? Those factors are fairly important too.

BTW, I’m a union county resident too. :)

Thank you for the quick response.
I’m white (which isnt good at all when it comes to college apps). The magnet school doesn’t rank b/c they state that by the simple fact that someone got in they are automatically in the top 10% of their district (mine being Linden).

I was contemplating whether the fact that I am from a magnet school will help my chances of getting on.
I also failed to note that one of my AP teachers wrote me a TCNJ-specific rec letter and hes an alumni, would that play as any advantage?

Once again thank you for the quick and informative response.

No problem.

Going to a magnet school will definitely help you. The rec letter should help quite a bit as well.

What other colleges are looking at? just asking out of curiosity.

These are all the schools I have either applied to or begun applying to:

-TCNJ
-Rutgers
-Rowan
-Quinnipiac
-Seton Hall
-Rider
-U of Scranton

I plan to major in accounting so if im up for any suggestions.

remove the “if”

Another question, what’s the rigor of your courseload. How many AP’s, honors, or ib classes did you take each year? Please forgive my ignorance, I’m not familiar with the courses and curriculum of a magnet school.

Rowan - in
Quinnipiac - in
Seton Hall - in
Rider - in
Scranton - in

Rutgers - high match

I consider “In’s” better than 70% chance of being accepted.

According to the UC Magnet bio all of the classes are considered honors. The acceptance rate for it is around 20%, so I consider myself lucky that I got in. I’m currently taking two AP courses (Calc1 and Gov)

And also…I’m not so sure about Rutgers b/c I only applied to the Business Schools (all campuses) and from what i hear its pretty hard to get into the NB Business school, so im regretting not applying to the College of Arts and Sciences.

Rutgers Newark and Camden (business) - high match
Rutgers NB - high match, low reach
TCNJ - low - mid reach

I hope i’ve been helpful.

Most certainly have. Greatly appreciated.
