I am applying to The University of Texas at Austin's social work program for Spring 2013. So far, I have attended four different schools: The University of Houston, Houston Community College, Lone Star College, and Austin Community College, with a total of 98 credit hours. I am afraid of being rejected just because I have too many hours. Initially I had a different major in mind so that's why I have so many. I know that I will have to complete 60 hours in residence at UT which means I may have to repeat some courses, and that's fine with me. I just want to receive my Bachelor's degree from there.

My gpa (if I calculated it correctly using the UT website's guidelines) is at 2.98. In previous years I had a few bad grades but for the last four semesters I have earned all As.

In my statement of purpose I am writing about how I attended eleven different schools since first-high school, how I obtained my permanent residency through The Violence Against Women Act, how as a young mother I am still determined in pursuing my degree, and about all of my volunteer experiences for the past five years (very extensive). Also, I am writing about how I started working at the age of 15 to pay for my own place since my mom was not able to care for me and my two younger sisters any longer. Finally, I am explaining why I wish to go to UT and what I have to offer to them.

Is there anything else that needs to be included in the statement of purpose? What, from all the information you've read above, do you think are my chances of getting accepted to UT?

Thank you for your time.
