My chances at these Uc?

Hey guys so I'm finished with my 2nd semester of junior year, and wanted to know what my chances where at UCSD, UCSB,UCI,UCDAVIS,UCRIVERSIDE,UCSANTABARBARA, and UCLA.

Sophomore year i had 3.3 unweighted, and 3.5 weighted both semesters.

Junior year; 1st semester: 2.0 unweighted 2.5 weighted Major reason**
2nd semster: 4.0 un weighted 4.7 weighted

So the reason for my first semester of junior year fail was because i had a personal loss, and i couldn't focus until i got some psychological help.....

I have 2190 sat score, 100 volunteer hours, medical internships, 3 years varsity tennis, state level chess player, Taught tennis/swimming to kids for over 2 years.

So can you guys please tell me what are my chances at the following uc's, and how i can improve my chances?

If you write a personal essay regarding the reason for your drop in grades it will help the admissions officers contextualize your situation and help you. Besides that, you have a good SAT score and good ECs.

My thread (chance back please): http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1610985-chances-for-vanderbilt-unc-nyu-uf-and-duke.html#latest

You actually have a great application for the colleges you picked. First, I would encourage you to go for even better schools (UCB, your major interests’ best ranked schools, eg. I love Business and UMichigan is a great business undergrad with a fairly low national ranking).

Like sloth83 said, writing about the harder times in your life is definitely a plus. I would also suggest writing about why and how you coached tennis.

Scratch my earlier comment, don’t go for UCB. I would suggest applying for a small private college, because they look for more than GPAs etc. UCB is very GPA and SAT based, since there are a lot of competitive Chinese children in the community around UCB. Same with all the other UCs. You have a great app, but I believe you could choose better colleges.

Still, you should definitely be able to get into most of the schools on your list. UCLA may be a bit like UCB and be a challenge, but still just a low match or low reach.

Chance back please?

I think you should write about your personal loss and how you grew from it. UCB and UCLA might be a little challenge for you but others are fine! I hope you get in!
