My chances at Top 25 school?

I've been worrying quite a bit recently -- heres a quick post of an estimate

GPA: 4.1 Weighted? (9 semesters of APs not including senior year)

SAT I: 2010 but I'm retaking it.. should be around 2150+ after I'm done with this

SAT II: Chem: 790
IIC: 760 (possible retake)

PSAT: 210

APs: Sophmore (Chem)
Junior (Music Theory, Calculus AB, Computer Science, English)

3 or above for all of them

E.C: Research project at UCLA, Decent amount of volunteer, club officer, running for band treasurer, national honor society memeber, california scholarship federation member

What are my chances of say.. a UCLA or higher ranked school? =/

I'd say your chances are quite high, with a GPA of 4.1 and decent SAT scores (2000+ for SAT I, 750+ for SATII's) would most likely guarantee an entry into the UCLA caliber schools.

thanks, on a handout i got from my school it said that the expected SAT I score for UCLA is 2100 which bothers me a lot

also, i dont think my e.c. is very strong

wat do you think?

Your welcome. Im here to help
As you may know, SAT scores ARE NOT everything. Even with other applicants that have scores of 2100+ or even 2200+, extra curricular activities will be the next area of assessment (after GPA). A research project at UCLA? That's quite outstanding for only a.. senior? in High school. The average applicant wont have any activities near that. Have you been in NHS for all four years? Colleges like to see persistency in extra-curricular activities like NHS and/or any clubs that your school might offer.

I would say if you are in-state (which I assume you are), you have a decent chance, however, I must disagree with a point that conservative makes, stating:

"The average applicant wont have any activities near that."

People who apply to UCLA? I don't think so. While research is great, it's not some steller EC. And most of these people who apply, their EC's are incredible, if not better.

While colleges like to see consistency, I cannot stress this enough, they want to see what you leave behind. A type of legacy. A part of you that will stay. Also, NHS is not anything near a "good EC," since nearly all the applicants, again, will have it.

oh yea, i forgot -- marching band and concert band for all 4 years

im a junior btw

good points made tami

on the side: i know my e.c. isnt super strong so do you think a SAT score considerably above what is "expected" like a 2200+ would be greatly helpful?

both my parents went to UCLA for degrees, im not sure if that would help either. meh!

Legacy? That's always a plus, if the college accepts them. And yes, high SAT's can never hurt! Duh! :p

how helpful!
oh yea, i was born in UCLA medical center too ;D

btw, is your city really called Boring? thats pretty unique!

LOL! No, it's just so boring here. If I lived in Denver, that'd be something else. But we live somewhere in Littleton...UGH. SO BOOOORING. Moving to Fort Collins soon though, brother going there for college.

Wow..you have so many odd ties with UCLA! :P Good Luck, and I hope you get in!

Would absolutely LOVE to get into brown, but... hmm, idk. here's my FAQ:

new SATs 2400
PSATs National merit finalist
president of key
secretary of honor society
softball captain
science team captain and going to nationals! whoo hoo<< go us!!

yeah... RAWR GRR want to get in, but we will see.

btw, i'm a HS sophomore in senior year, so i might repeat everything again... just for the heck of it and better chance to get into early program. hmm... idk. i have 4.0 unweighted GPA, 6 and 7s on all IB exams (from freshman year taking them) and this year i just finsihed taking them again, hoping to have all 7s!!! and we will see... college next year? maybe.... undecided. so far stanford accepts, yale accepts, harvard's waiting list, and brown is "undecided"... so we will wait. if not, maybe one more year until i feel good and ready! and i'm 16... so idk

what do you think?? THANKS!!!!!!! :):):) do you think i'm CRAZY?? haha j/k

My friend wants to know his chances at the Ivy League Schools:
1970 on first SAT, but re-take after that was a 2150
4.0 unweighted
20 units of college classes w/ a 4.0(General Ed. Classes)
Creative Writing Club - Secretary
Astronomy Club - Treasurer
National Honor Society
Social Awareness Club
Had a job during Summer of Freshman Year
PETA Activist
Harvard Legacy
Ethnicity: Mexican

He wants to get into Harvard mainly, but he's also applying to the other Ivy Leagues.

g_han: great chances at all, including Harvard. his ethnicity may be the strongest part of his app (no offense to his accomplishments).

confusedaboutcollegegirl,
You have a very nice application to be honest. I hope you get into Brown and from looking at your app, most likely you're probably at the very top or near the top of their list. If you really want to try next year, I would keep your positions in office and just add another year of the same excellence.

Thanks, we're all here to help out each other, it's alright.

To Zhou, you have very good stats looking at the Top 25. UCLA and UCB accepts statistics like yours. You look like you have the typical app that would get anyone into the UC's. For EC's yours looks decent and depending on your research, it may or may not help you. You may want to try Harvey-Mudd also. The EC's can't be stressed enough though because I know people that were not accepted and had to go to their ELC-provided school due to not having enough/significant EC's.

thanks for the input!

thank you for your input too!

zh0u:
