Counselor reccomendation: same as teacher
essay: spend a ton of time on it for sure!

I want to go into the biotechnology/biomedical/bioengineering/ or the genetical engineering field.

Want to go into:
Johns Hopkins University
MIT
University of washington (straight into junior year there with full scholarship)
Duke
Caltech
Harvard (maybe not)
University of california-san diego (probably not going to apply there... maybe, heard they have a good bio-engineering class)

Any other college/univeristy matches or reaches for me?!

hopkins- in (not exactly a safety, but 80% i'd say)
ucsd- i don't know how hard it is out of state; great bio research there, mostly recognized for grad not undergrad though
duke- if ED, 50% or a little better if your SAT goes up some
Harvard, Caltech, MIT: not much of a shot as it is now
don't retake SAT II US history, you're already looking a little test-obsessed, and better SAT II's won't really improve your app

hm. i got into bme ED. i dont think my stats were very strong compared to the others....

gpa: 4.3W/3.98UW
sat I: 790M, 660W, 610V
sat II: math ic-740 / math iic-770

i didnt think my essays were that good either...maybe it was my recommendations.

This is post by someone who got into the most competitive field in JHU--- bio-medical engineering..... his Stats compared to mine are similar.

and some of you are saying i can't be accepted to JHu?

dude, bassmaster, deflate your ego or be prepared for a very painful spring of '07. you aren't god's gift to the college admissions process by any stretch of the imagination. you have solid scores and mundane EC's. there are tens of thousands of kids like you accross the country, and tens of thousands of them are better than you and are also less arrogant. so chill out.

Well, I think that you have a good chance at Hopkins. You could try Cornell. Look at U Rochester- good safety. Look at Rensselaer. Look at Rice. Look at Olin- small, prestigious, free startup near MIT. You might want to look at some 3/2 programs in which liberal arts college pair with top universities for engineering. You have a really good record, but I'm a little worried about your age. If you stayed on grade level- you would have a spectacular record. You might get bored and lonely off at some megaversity.

I think everything is a reach in varying level besides UW; UCSD is going to be really tough because youre not from CA..sorry playa gotta live in the best state to go to the best school system. Caltech, MIT, Harvard super reach meaning 5% shot...Duke, JHU, UCSD reach maybe 20-25% shot...UW safety

Sorry, you guys... i guess the whole college admission thing freaked me out :(... whew deep breath... i'm fine now :). Please post no more in this thread.

If you apply ED to hopkins, you'll get in. These people have no idea what they're talking about if they're comparing Hopkins to Harvard in selectivity.

i say you probably have a solid shot at all your choices except for of course, Harvard, MIT... you know it's a crap shoot and much of it also depends on the applicant pool of your year. of course, there are going to be super strong applicants every year, it will vary. what are you focusing on with your extracurriculars? perhaps you're trying to show that you're all-around? your essays, interview, and recs will need to be strong for you to have a chance at the reaches. i only have one question. 1st degree black belt in 4 years??? i do taekwondo myself and either your dojang is absolute crap or you seriously put in a LOT of time. anyways good luck

Just get your SAT somewhere over 2300, and you should be IN at hopkins and relatively fair chances at the reaches like Harvard and MIT (like 5 to 15% at each school)

Maybe you should apply to Hopkins ED (if you can afford the place). If that does not work out, why not do the U Washington/full scholarship/junior option. Finish in two years, and apply to your dream schools as a grad student. Most of the "dream schools" are easier to get into as a grad student, and you generally get tuition plus a stipend.

what are my chances at the ivies and equivalent schools?

Your overall GPA and SAT scores are not high enough for the basic UW merit scholarship. btw, UW doesn't even give national merit finalists a full ride :)
If you work hard and raise your gpa and sat scores you could get a $4,000 over two year scholarship. Make sure when you apply that you list your intended area of study on the application as certain departments offer some scholarships to attract students.
