My chances at UC Berkeley Regents Scholarship

Hi all, I know the admissions at ivy league schools and the like are extremely competitive and somewhat unpredictable, so I will refrain seeking advice concerning those schools. However, I think UC Berkeley should be a match for me, but I do really want the regents scholarship. Basically, I am ranked 5/349 with a 4.0 GPA at a so-so public school. I am an OOS as well and an asian male. I also have a 2400 SAT, with couple 800's in SAT II's. I was recently named a semifinalist in siemens competition. My ec's are somewhat limited because I moved in the middle of high school, but I do have a combination of leadership, sports, etc. So what is the raw likelihood in terms of percentages as of now?

I’d say a 60% chance. A friend of mine who goes to UCB applied with a 4.0 gpa, 2300 SAT, 800’s on his SAT II’s, came from a competitive private school, didn’t have much ECs either, and didn’t get a regents from berkeley. However, he did get regents offers from other UC schools. He also happened to be an asian male (lol). He was a CA resident too and i’m not sure why he didn’t get it…

I think though, that the main difference here is that you do sports and it sounds like you have leadership activities, so that and a killer essay would definitely help.

I know nothing about Regents, so I’m not going to chance you on that, but be aware that UCs are frighteningly unpredictable. It seems like the middle of the pack students from my school get in, but not the top tier ones. Beware of telling them you’re Asian…

OP is an OOS resident and not a CA resident.
