My Chances at UCB/UCLA/UCSD

Hey guys...just wondering if someone could help me out on this one...

I just completed my freshman year at a community college here in california, and although I had a less than stellar academic record in HS (only managed a 3.0 gpa), I've stepped it up a notch in my first year of CC.

I've got a 3.8 gpa, 1250 SAT, and have had work experience with two major retailers...the one I'm working for now I work at about 24 hrs/wk. I also find time to volunteer at the local homeless shelter and library on weekends.

And I've made sure to follow IGETC closely...so...assuming I keep my gpa up and everything in my sophomore year, whaddya think my chances are of getting into uc berkeley, ucla, or ucsd as an english major??

appreciate the help...

If that was your High school GPA and highschool SAT, I would say that all of those schools are probably reaches, with san Diego being the most likely. However, since you are taking those classes at college level ( be it cc) I think you have about a 25 % chance at all of them. I'm not quite sure... but i think thats about right. BUT, for examle, I know that graduation from the local CC in Santa Cruz means almost for sure acceptance into UCSC. Where is your CC?

Based on your high school stats,
UCB: Reach
UCLA: Reach
UCSD: Slight Reach

yea, i go to fullerton cc...

oh yea forgot to mention that the 3.8 gpa is my college gpa after my freshman year. that sat score though is from my senior year in high school. i plan on transferring after my sophomore year...

UCB, UCLA, and UCSD are all reaches. But anything else like UCI, UCSB, UCD etc... are matches.

If you keep that 3.8 GPA at the CC, I think that you will be able to get into all three.

UCB no
UCLA slight reach
UCSD maybe

UCSBs don't take SAT scores or high school GPAs for transfer students. A 3.8 is in the match/slight reach area.
