All three essays (Common App, Supps) got note-worthy comments from college counselor.

ECAs:
1) Production of an award winning short film
2) Mathematics Olympiad
3) Participation in national debate competitions.
4) Captain of the school soccer team
5) Loads of community work

Our high school does not have a ranking system, but it is the most competitive school in my country. I have a very rigorous workload. I have already received conditional offers from Imperial and UCL.

I have applied to UMichigan (Ann Arbor - Engineering) very late (01/28/2011). I am an international applicant and I am not applicable for aid. Could you evaluate my chances? Do I have any chance of getting scholarships? Oh, and when are RD decisions announced?

Michigan’s one of my top choices and any reassurance would be appreciated. Guys?

It could go either way. You have the grades to get in, but many students with your stats are rejected.

I don’t exactly know where you are from, but as an IS myself,
let me give you my idea on your chance…
Your GPA is good. Not perfect but but good enough to get into UM.
The only problem is your standardized test scores.
Although 1940 is a great score for someone like us who do not
speak English as their first language, I think it will not really help you
to stand out among many well-qualified international applicants.
Especially you are applying to one of the most hardest school to get in-CoE.

College admission process is holistic. Your score itself will not be the only major factor
of your admission. However, just by looking at what you wrote, there isn’t anything
dazzling enough to cover some of your weaknesses.

Good luck though. This is a crazy year for UM after switching to CA.
We will see what happens and hopefully you can get a great result.

You need to clarify a few areas. First off, what are your actual SAT I scores (reading/math/writing). Second, did you get a 700 on SAT II Math I or SAT II Math II. Getting a 700 on either doesn’t make sense if you Math Olympiad; it’s pretty low.

I am willing to bet that you are not going to get any scholarships. There are people who come in-state with need that have better stats period and still don’t get aid.

i made a mistake. A few clarifications:

*SAT-2 Math : 790
*SAT-1 Super Score: 770(math)+640(Writing)+600(Critical Reading)=2010
Highest score on one sitting(SAT-1): 770+600+570=1940

I applied EA and was accepted with similar stats, slightly higher. I am IS though, so that may amount to some factor in their decision. I’m not sure how Michigan handles internationals, but I think you have a good chance. Just hope for the best!

where’re u from? canada?

I am from Bangladesh (Indian sub-continent).
