I lived in France from age 7-16, so my 9th and 10th year grades don't have Honors or APs since those don't exist in France. Therefore my GPA isn't high when it is cumulative (2.9) but if you look at my Junior year of HS it is 4.1. And my senior grades are looking the same so far.

I took 2 AP exams last year: Psychology and French, and got 5 on both.
I am taking AP European History this year and ALL Honors classes.

I live in NC, have a strong counselor statement that discusses my GPA and coming from another country.

SAT:
Critical Reading: 660
Writing: 720
Math: 520

Subject test:
Literature: 640
French Language: 800

I'm the photographer and web designer of my school newspaper, I babysit and do french tutoring, I do community work for the Salvation Army and Habitat for Humanity, but have only done so since about a month. I play the piano and do portrait photography. I've been in clubs such as FBLA and the French Club and have also been a lead actress in drama class.

My essay/short answers/other, have info about my living in France, the culture and traveling experiences I had (I traveled throughout Europe a lot).

I want to major in French or Psychology.

I’m no expert but your SAT scores are pretty good. However, I do believe that your GPA dilemma is quite alarming, but like you mentioned I think it was a smart move for your counselor to explain your situation. Your EC’s are a little on the low side though. Personally I feel as though you have a very so-so shot but I’m only hoping for the best for both you and I. Hopefully your essays were very strong. Good luck :)!!!

Thank you for the honest opinion! Hopefully my essays will help out yes, and my recommendations too since they’re quite strong.
thanks!

No problem and again good luck!

Anyone else have an opinion?

it’s pretty hard for me to tell since living in France for two years is an unique situation. However, I think if you describe your high school class choices and the reasons behind having a low GPA, you have a much better shot at getting in. Goodluck!

I didn’t only live there for 2years, I lived there from age 7 to 16.
Yes, my counselor statement explains the GPA situation and the grades a bit too, or at least is should. So hopefully that helps. I hear that Chapel Hill really look into diversity, and I have a whole lot of that. In my essay I talk about it as well, but i’m really worried…

No i’m applying RD, I didn’t think it would make a difference :/

^ It won’t, don’t worry. IMO it’ll come down to your county and your essays. If you’ve got awesome essays and you’re not from Wake/Mecklenburg, then they might let you in. Otherwise, you may be SOL.

Well i’m going to the best public high school of North Carolina (in Guilford county). And I think my essays and short answer replies are pretty unique/stand out and are well written. So I guess I’ll just have to cross my fingers from now on. Thanks for the opinion!

My school newspaper has won a lot of awards with programs at Chapel Hill if my memory serves me well, and i’m working in that newspaper this year, so maybe that will work in my favor as well.
