lol do you even need to ask?

How about me? HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Hey all, I have a quick question.
I have a 4.0 overall GPA.
My SAT's are Reading - 620, Writing 630, math 570
(I just retook the SAT's on Oct 6th)

I'm Student Body President of a 3000 student school. The position is like a full time job. It is heaped with responsibility. I'm involved in other clubs and NHS.
But Student Body President thing pretty much takes up all my time. I've been in Student Government - which is a class -all four years of high school. I was Junior Class President last year.

I have great recs.

Wondering is a recommendation from the Principal is a good idea besides academic references????

Because my high school is competitive I am only in the top 20% with the new way of scoring (I would have been 10% according to the old rules.) Boooo.

I was Pre IB for 9th and 10th grades.

The reason my GPA wasn't as high for one semester was because in the beginning of my 10th grade, my family moved from Arizona to PA!!!

My 17 year old brother died the same week we moved- he was killed in an accident!

So I only did 6 months at the PA school and then moved back to AZ to finish my school years back at my old school where I knew people. (We had never been to PA before)

My essay explains that is why my GPA dropped to 3.6 at that time, plus the PA school did not offer Pre IB. I've taken all honors and AP since.

I am interested in Broadcast Journalism.

I forgot to add, I am a 16 year old female (I'll be 17 soon)
Senior at an Arizona school, I'm active in many clubs I started at the school plus STUGO. (Student Government)
I do a ton of volunteer work also.

Unweighted GPA 3.540
Overall GPA 4.0

If my chances look poor, what other schools do you think I may have a chance at? It must be on the east coast.
Thank you everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!

Azsummer, please don't waste our time reading that long post... and don't waste your own time typing that long post. No one read past your third line anyway.

LOL. I guess I'm desperate.............smile

azsummer, let me apologize for lil killer, I don't think he meant to be so abrupt. For you as well as others, please note that PSU provides on their admissions website a scattergram that you can use to find out how likely you are to be admitted to University Park:

http://admissions.psu.edu/info/counselors/bubble_chart06.pdf

For you, azsummer, the combination of your SAT scores and your GPA has you falling just within the blue section so your likelihood of being admitted is good.

Before posting a "what are my chances" thread on CC, I think it would behoove you to utilize the tools the school provide the help you determine how likely you are to be admitted. Of course, the only way you can truly find out if you will be admitted is to apply!

Thanks Springfieldmom! Yes, I have checked their websties, and that is one reason why I thought I'd at least try to see if I could get in. We are visitng the campus next week. Woot! Woot! NYU is my super reach school and Miami U is my first choice. Thanks for all your advice, that was so nice!

Do they have one of those scattergrams with the ACT scores?

I got a 620 in math!!! Yay! I'm in the mid 600's for all now! Woot! Woot!
