my chances at various schools inc middlebury, grinnell, etc

Calz, We are also an international family. My son who had similar background to you was accepted by Williams ED.

Williams, like many LACs, values international living experience highly for what these kids can bring to the campus community.
It is a substantial hook. You should be sure to feature this aspect of your experience in your essays.

As an American living abroad you get a double benefit: The schools see it as a way to achieve cultural diversity without having to worry about language and visa problems.

Of the colleges on your list Williams is definitely the most selective. If after you visit (and IF finances are not an issue for your family)

Williams is your first choice you might want to consider applying ED as this is a clear advantage. Middlebury, Macalester, Grinnell, Carleton, WUSTL are next in selectivity, but I couldn’t rank them. I do know that Macalester and Grinnell are very friendly to third culture kids.
