My chances at Yale

I have yet to take the SAT...my GPA is 3.9 and class rank is #11 out of 1161 students, graduated with high honors. I'm also a member of the National Honor Roll. I have been a professional tennis player for 4 years, travelling the world and competing in Grand Slams and various professional tennis tournaments. I thought this may help me get in, and be a unique essay topic. What do you think my chances are? What SAT scores would I need to aim for? Thanks!!

Vandy*hopeful,
I think you have solid chances based on your current stats. Practice well for SATs though. I would recommend enrolling in Kaplan. From what my S tells me, these classes are very helful in regards to making you "test-wise" and in time-saving techniques.

I do know that a valedictorian from his school got in EA at Yale with ~2200 SAT scores. Girls are generally better at the Writing section than boys and often get better total scores in SAT, I think.

National Honor Roll is pretty much a joke, so that's not saying much. Some more stats would help people to evaluate your chance more thoroughly, because the description you give about yourself is pretty vague and "normal."

Ah! Tennis!

Since you've already gone pro there is no chance you can play NCAA? I think it will still help a lot and will be great for an essay but it would've been great if you could use that talent to become recruited. Still, I know someone who played pro tennis that went to Yale and I think that is something that helped him get in when he applied.

Thanks for the advice!!

If you can get recruited, with good grades and rank like yours, you're in. Great athletes with much lesser grades than yours get in easily.
