My Chances for a few UC's

anyone want to give me maybe a rough estimate of how my chances would be at UCI, UCSB, UCSD, and UCR with the following criteria:

GPA for Sophomore and Junior year-3.3-3.4 (weighted)....bad i know
SAT I: first time I got about 1600, but i just took it this past saturday so i'm hopeful...
SATII's:going to take math 2c and literature on novemeber
i have two years of different sports, a few clubs, and many hours of volunteer/community service.

should i even bother applying to the schools listed above? any info would be helpful....thanks

Hello UCR!! Apply to Merced too.

You might have a chance at UCSC if they have open spots in certain majors you are interested in. Otherwise suze is correct, it's either UC Riverside or UC Merced based upon the GPA and test scores.

The last option might be to go to a community college for the next one or two years and then get a good enough GPA (around 3.2 to 3.3) to qualify for one of the schools you asked about (UCI or UCSB--and with a 3.4 or 3.5, UCSD).

Best of luck.

thanks for the replies! yeah, i'm really think im going to have to go to a cc...

another question for you guys...do colleges count the Junior year grades more or sophomore year? I did horribly during my sophomore year due to a lot of factors, but I picked up my junior year and my GPA was approximately 4.0, would that have any bearing over my admission chances?

lastly, how difficult is it to go to a community college for a year and transfer to a UC (e.g. UCI) as opposed to staying at the cc for two years and then transferring?

thanks in advance!

UCSD: Huge Reach (forget about it)
UCSB/UCI: Reach-Slight Reach
UCR: Match

Universities do look favorably upon an upward trend in grades. When transfering to a UC from a junior college, it is almost impossible to transfer after the first year. You would usually apply after your first year and transfer after your second. Before transfering, you must usually complete IGETC certification, which is the UC's general education requirements which can be met at your cc but following the IGETC program. Transferring before completing IGETC is almost impossible. get a 3.5 gpa in cc and follow the IGETC program and you will have a good shot at top tier UC's (UCSD, UCLA, UC Berkeley).

cal90:

Assuming you are a California resident,
UCSD: Super Reach
UCI/UCSB: Reach
UCR: Slight Reach

flopsy, yeah, I'm a California resident...would UC Davis also be a huge reach? also would it look bad if I have one SAT II which I did poorly on, but I did good on the other subject tests?

thanks in advance

I would say ucsc is a match....

cal90:

UCD: Reach
UCSC: Slight Reach

What major do you guys recommend selecting for UCSC? Also, is the campus really horrible as far as academics, I've heard that their a lot of hippies there lol...
