Hello everyone,
I’m looking at Boston University and I’m wondering if anybody can tell me what my chances are of getting into this school?
My academic standing is as follows:
3.75 unweighted GPA
4.1 weighted GPA
SAT 1,100 CR and MATH
SAT 1,720 CR, MATH, and WRITING
ACT Composite of 22
(I’ve only taken the SAT and ACT once, so I definitely plan to raise those scores a little bit.)
As far as extracurricular items go, I have participated in the following for at least one school year.
Cross Country
Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Club
History Club
Drama Club
Orchestra Club
Hospital Volunteer Work
National Honors Society
Science Club
Thank you for any answers!
Honestly, your GPA and academics are solid but your SAT score is weak. Boston College aims to select more students in the 2000s or 1900s range. Either you would have to bump up your SAT/ACT score or fill your resume with more achievements and extracurriculars. As of now, I’d say if you bump up your SAT and ACT score, you would have a really good chance of getting in.
@CEOSandeep I figured I would need to raise my scores. Thank you for the input!
@brunalleschi I am, in fact, a junior.
I agree completely with CEOSandeep. Also, do you happen to know your class rank? Or at least how many APs are offered at your school and how many you have taken?
@brunalleschi I’m homeschooled and I do all of my classes through a community college near my home. I’ve only taken four so far but I plan to take that many each semester, so by the time of graduation I should have ten to twelve APs. So I don’t have a class rank and APs aren’t technically offered directly to me. Is that putting me at a disadvantage?
I dont think so, but I do know that BU recommends home school applicants to take SAT IIs. I would suggest math 2, either world or us history, and a science subject test. A lot of schools don’t even have class rank, and I’m sure most of them have had students admitted to BU. Good luck!! I think you are on the right path
@brunalleschi Okay, thanks!
You have a good GPA and solid ECs; however, you are going to have to raise your standardized test scores to get into BU. Aim for at least a 1900 to be safe. Since you are a junior, you have plenty of time to study more! Good luck.
Take the ACT as well. Some kids have better luck with it.
